Has anyone else had any problems with clonidine increasing aggressive outbursts and if so can you add something to the clonidine to help with the aggression?

Clonidine violent outbursts
I would suggest if clonidine is causing aggression, not to add a med to stabilize it. Remove the clonidine instead.
TruSom8- Just curious, are you working with a child psychiatrist to determine the best type of medication, the correct dose of medication and the correct timing. In our experience they are medical doctors that specialize in knowing what is best for your child at certain stages in their life. They are many factors when giving a child the right combination of medication. When our Pediatrician who handling our son's medication he advised us to use a single type of medication and refused to raise the dose when needed. Once we invited a child psychiatrist on board our lives really changed.
It sound like you could benefit from someone that know how to help your child.
Best of luck in this journey.
Yes. My son takes focalin xr during the day and clonidine at night to sleep. After he takes it but before he falls asleep he has been having horrible angry fits and meltdowns. I think we need to avoid combining it with sugar and also reduce his dose. Working through that.
Yes, clonidine is sometimes associated with worsening behaviors. I agree with the recommendation to stop/wean the medication (depends on the dose as to which to do) and see what happens.
We have had many med changes over the years, 14 and 15 years old. I will not tolerate a medication that causes violent outbursts. I had a TV broken years ago. There are too many other options.
Getting really tired of hearing about your goats milk theory. Do you even have a child with ADHD??????!!!!!
It is hard. I would stop the clonidine if the changes happened since you started it. Will your doctor let you try low dose melatonin? It comes in chewable form but do not try without doctor's approval.
I have used this with my child on 3 occasions. We tried it first without a stimulant and stopped. I didn’t see any changes. We tried at a later time with an adhd specialist and stopped taking it. I didn’t find any good results. I suspected my child was having a negative reaction to this in regards to behavior and meltdowns. I tried more recently, we again stopped taking it. This time I was absolutely sure this was affecting my child negatively with extreme meltdowns that could turn very harmful for everyone involved. I stopped giving this medication as a result. I’m very clear now it was the medication. My child is not having these meltdowns like before. We have our struggles, but with this medication I had been seeing things we hadn’t been dealing with.
I have not tried Clonidine but I think that maybe discussed on our next appt. We have tried Guanfacine recently and had to stop in 3 weeks in because of the same reason you are having...increased irritability/frustration, meltdowns and tantrums and just overall behavioral changes that we have not seen before.
I am wondering if you have tried Guanfacine if so did it give you these effects also or was it just Clonidine?
Best of Luck!
