I'm interested in the fun, creative, ingenious things that your little ADD/ADHD child(ren) do.

Hello everyone, My name is Renee.

I had such a great time being at home with my children during COVID-19. I was able bond with my boys. I'll be honest, I figured that they would drive me crazy.

Let me set the story/stage, my family lives on a farm, in Michigan, and so this "COVID thing" is a huge mystery to my boys. Because there/our daily life is no different then before. Johni, my youngest, asked one day, why is everyone saying "we are in this together, I know it sucks." Because, they probably live close to others and don't live on a farm with 100 acres of woods to play in. Now we do go to town, wear our masks, and see civilization time to time.

The reason I am writing is because Johni came to me one day. He is wanting to paint a feed bag. I didn't think too much of it. He is always tinkering around out in the barn with the chickens and such. Then he wanted me to sew a little bit of the opening to make it smaller. OK ...at this point my curiosity is getting the best of me. I ask him what this is for...He said that he is making a grass clipping bag for an old walking mower we had out in the barn.

Your kidding right?!?! Does it even work, who knows...Anyway, he is outside for hours and I finally went out to see what he is doing. He is adjusting the bag that he has attached to the mower with heavy tension wire, that is used for the pastures electric fence. I am starting to think crazy thoughts, "this is going to blow off the second he starts, there is no way, ...wait...this stupid mower won't even start!!

He is ready to start the mower needs gas (...thinking... don't waist what little gas we have for this POS... ) but he pores it in. He makes a few last checks and what the hell! The mower started...(ummmm... after about 5 minutes of my help...thank you! Wouldn't you know, the bag held in there!! For the next week, everyday, he was mowing the yard and was giving the clippings to the different animals on our farm.

PS...for the people reading this, I hope your not Prof. Cooper, I was NOT a grammar/English major...so let this go!!

I'd love to hear about your little geniuses'!

Thank you,

Renee

Thanks for sharing, what a great story and think of the sense of accomplishment your son got from his invention. Yeah our ADHD kiddos are very creative and inventive. When my son was young, he was always creating things out of paper and tape. One time he made a neat little pirate ship, complete with sails ...out of paper! Then he got into knex and Legos, but he didn't follow their diagrams, choosing instead to design his own.

I think your Johni will be quite the inventor. 😊

My favorite story is the morning I arrived at the preschool he attended for a couple of years (until they couldn't deal with him any more). One of the teachers greeted me and asked "did they tell you what he did?" Of course I immediately expected something bad. Then she handed me her phone which had a picture on it. My son had assembled a bunch of magna-tiles into the shape of a rocket ship complete with pointed nose and fins, totally unprompted by any picture in the classroom! We are huge science fiction fantasy fans, so he sees a lot of rockets in general. I was quite impressed!

Our son does love anything he can build with - Mega-Blocks, Magformers, wooden blocks.
