Adderall and depression med

Hi there- my teen is on Adderall 20mg XR for ADHD and has said for quite some time now that she thinks she depressed and we Are exploring the possibility of medication for depression. She does have a therapist but she’s been completely booked since she started seeing patients again virtually. Anything I need to know or ask as far as taking adderall AND maybe another medication for depression? Thanks!

Hi, my son is almost 14 and has been taking Concerta and Sertraline since 6th grade under the care of a psychiatrist. He’s currently in 9th. He’s done very well and the combination has accurately addressed the inattention and anxiety. It’s not uncommon for those with ADHD to have co-occurring anxiety and/or depression symptoms. I've been on Effexor for anxiety and depression for a couple of years and recently got diagnosed with ADHD. I'm in my 30's but the piece of advice I have is that if prescribed an ssri for depression make sure to take stimulant medication and the ssri separately. When I took them at the same time it worked almost like a tranquilizer. But once I started splitting them up by about an hour its been a marvelous combination.

my teen daughter just started taking Zoloft along with vyvanse. I know it's very common - We are waiting to see if it helps. Good luck to you

My adult son takes lexapro and Adderall, no problems at all. He started on them in his late teens.
