Does anyone have a child on Biphentin? I’ve never heard of it until last week when we met with our pediatrician. My daughter is on Concerta (36mg) but she struggles to swallow the pill and we go through at least 2 pills a day before we *actually* swallow one. It’s tempting to cut it in half but we all know what happens when we do that...
In 2 weeks, we’re switching her to Biphentin (20mg) in the morning and then a 10mg booster in the afternoon. Apparently I can open this pill and mix it in with her yoghurt/apple sauce in the mornings so it’s easier for kids to take.
Honestly just not ready to try yet another medication. Thoughts/experiences? 🙂

Justine-lynae- just curious what methods have you tried. Many people try pudding/yogurt. We use water that we add flavoring to . But more important, Have her tilt her head back put water in the drop the pill in. I think also we rewarded him for every pill taken.
It’s rough hey? My daughter is developmentally delayed and has ASD...she’s mentally only 3. Poor kid doesn’t understand “we can’t chew the pill before we swallow it”
I tried putting her pill in a spoonful of yoghurt and fed it to her...she found the pill and out it came.
Hopefully this is just a really long phase and she’ll figure it out soon 😳
My son is currently on Biphentin. It’s methylphenidate controlled release but it think it’s just available in Canada, hence why you don’t hear a lot about it here. I think Concerta might be the same molecule.
It is very easy for a child to consume. We just sprinkle it on yogourt and it doesn’t seem to taste bitter as my son doesn’t react to it and he’s very sensitive and a picky eater.
We are just starting our medication journey and it’s not going that great so far so I won’t comment on the effects themselves because I know many parents have much better experiences with Biphentin than we are having.
Can you crush the pill and put it in apple sauce or yogurt? My son is horrible at swallowing pills. I had crushed his medication with a spoon in a bowl. Then poured that into yogurt. I’d give him a spoonful of just apple sauce, then a spoonful of sauce mixed with the pill. Alternate till done.
Concerta cant be crushed it has a extended release formulation that only needs to be taken once a day. They are designed to release a small amount of the medicine immediately, as the outer layer of the tablet dissolves
Biphentin is just an extended release methylphenidate product that can be swallowed or sprinkled (comes as a capsule that contains smaller pellets). According to info on the Internet, 40% is immediately released and the remaining 60% is gradually released so it is supposed to last about 12 hours. Consider it to be another methylphenidate option if she can't swallow Concerta (which also contains methylphenidate). It is available in Canada but not in the USA (to my knowledge).
