Just starting the journey

I am at the very beginning stage of tackling inattentive ADHD. We have not started out Ed-psy evaluation yet. Has anyone had positive results eliminating certain foods from their child's diet ?

Definitely sugar and processed foods (including fruit juices and even white rice, pasta).

I bumped up proteins and healthy fat. It made a huge difference.

I obviously allow some sugar in the diet, you don't want the kids to feel punished so we have a deal: you eat first the good things and you can have one bad thing a day (cookie, candy, juice, you name it).

Welcome to the group! We are always here if you have questions.

Our son was required to go on the SCD (simple carbohydrate diet) so basically he could only eat meat and veggies. No sauces, no sugar ( only honey) it's a very limiting.

There was no change in his ADHD.

Best of luck!

Interesting that it didn't make a change. Is he on meds?

Not only did it not help, it made him sicker. His Specialist ask me to introduce yogurt, that didn't help. After a few days we gave him rice and as we thought his body got much, much better. He had a running coach and their session were impossible to complete because he was so sick.

We have since discovered he has no food intolerances or allergies ( we have been on a 4 year journey). Now we have a real diagnosis which is exactly what he struggles with.

Our opinion is eat healthy but allow him to enjoy things along the way. If we limit him he tries to sneak thing. Hope this helps.

Welcome! You will love everyone here! Yes, I eliminated all sugar, then dairy. It didn't help at all, but I still try to limit her sugar at night especially.

I know others have seen a huge change though!

I have a hard time with this. All research points to low sugar high protein etc... diets for adhd to help them. HOwever as someone who has struggled with an eating disorder and has since found Haes (health at every size) and now is trying to internalize all food is just that food. (without moralizing good food bad food). How do I pass on to my children (that really do need more structure with their food intake) we need to eat more foods that make us feel healthy and good (strong bla bla) then foods that don't have nutritional value. All they want is what I limit (what I still call nutrition less food aka junk).

To them THAT is food that makes them feel good and I can't say no its bad food because I am trying to not go down the route of bad food vs good food.

We have always seen noticeable improvement when we do the “whole 30” diet. It is basically no dairy, grains, or sugar for 30 days. My wife and I do it along with him as it really isn’t fair for one person in a household to do it alone. The idea is to kind of stick with it after the 30 days, but have always fell off the wagon.

Currently my wife has been following “The Medical Medium” advice and I really think it is showing great promise. Everyday we are noticing that our 13 year old son is much more aware of life. He has been a lot more fun to be around! He usually doesn’t show much enthusiasm about anything. Like he didn’t have an opinion about much of anything. His answer to every thing was “I don’t care”. Not really in a depressed way, but really with a lack of opinion. He has really never had any close friends. He annoyed other kids and he knew it, but didn’t know what to do. Now

in the last month there have been a few boys coming over an hanging out. More like “main stream” boys...not just the boys that like him had social challenges.

We still are having a lot of the same challenges. He still forgets many things in just minutes. I am sure he could never sit through class without taking concerta, and honestly I cannot prove for certain that it is the supplements and smoothies that are what is doing it. But things are really good right now.

Like I said, my wife has done much more research than I have, I know we have all been drinking celery juice first thing every morning ang then he drinks a “heavy metal detox” smoothie in the afternoon. I don’t know all the ingredients but I know it has blueberries and celantro. It tastes pretty good. Plus he is taking several vitamins and minerals. If you google “medical medium adhd” and choose videos, there is some youtube videos from a teen girl and her mom titled “how we cured adhd and autism using medical medium protocols” that really get into it.

If only our son would allow the suggestions but he fights us all the way when we suggest anything healthy. How do you deal with this strong odd behavior?

We had to really make a list of the battles ( food, school, hygiene, behavior and peers) we had with him and we had to pick which battles we wanted to fight and leave the rest. The question of when we punish and when we change what we do. So for example we draw the line with school. This is where we invest the most enegry/punishment/reward. Next is food ( we require protein at all snacks/ meals, which he can choose) then hygiene (we stand and watch him brush teeth and put on deodorant) and the rest we are much more change things and move on. So he was sneaking food so we just stopped having those items in the house...yes we were upset after finding wrappers in his room 1 million times, but we can't battle this "low item".

I know each parent handles thing differently, but we have to survive and love each other.

Hope this helps...
