encouragement and question

I am here for support and encouragement and have a question i have a 21 and 12 year old. My 12 was doing fine in school was getting as and b's and now getting b's and c's anybody else have the problem and what did you do. he is on 25 mg of stratera and 40 mg of adderrall.

Huh. I'm just wondering if maybe there isn't something else going on? friendships or a shift in the school work? How long as he been on the dose of Adderrall? Maybe he needs an adjustment?

I’m gonna agree with camos here. It seems to be a typical age with hormone adjustments & needing to adjust your medication. And also an age where they become more socially aware, so it being something else at school with friends or whatnot. I’d talk to your son to see if anything is going on, and also bring your concerns to your prescriber / primary care physician.

The transition from elementary to middle school is tough, especially for kids with adhd. Going from one teacher to many different teachers all with different teaching styles is hard. Transitioning from class to class, bringing the right books/binders, remembering the various assignments is pretty difficult for our kids - not to mention the actual content.

Kids with ADHD can be 3-5 yrs delayed neurodevelopmentally in certain areas. So they may be age appropriate in one thing but behind in another. Try to learn more about executive functioning and what strategies could be put in place to support while their brain continues to develop.
