Halloween Treats

Hi everyone,

Halloween is approaching and my son is counting down almost everyday.

I'd like to ask experienced ADHD parents how you've limited treats?

We started no junk food in our home rule as he goes crazy after.....(hyper), but hey it's Halloween.....

For those of you who has no sugar diet at home, how much are you allowing your child to have? one treat daily or only on the weekend, etc.....??

I'd like to prepare myself :)

Good morning,

I could not agree more, sugar is the worst for ADHD.

This is the rule we have and we have talked about over this month, every week.

They can eat as much candy as they want the first day, then the rest disappear.

Usually I take the rest to the office for my coworkers to eat!

Problem solved and no lasting drama :-)

I see. My son gets stomachache after eating too much chocolate.

It was Easter Day that I found out about it. I wasn't paying attention of how much he was eating.

Since next day is still school day this year, I'm afraid he wouldn't go to sleep on Halloween night due to too much sugar.

Hi, this is a great question to ask. Because my son is over-weight, he is allowed one small treat after completing homework at night. I hide his treat bag so he does not get into it. The funny thing is that I am the one that winds up eating most of the treats.

I like the idea. Probably one or two treats before dinner should be okay. I'm even thinking about dividing his treats by 3 (him, my husband and I ) that night. It depends on how much treats he is going to bring home though.... We have a lock box that all snack goes as he always sneaks into snack.

See I have 3 kidsn that have Adhd and they are 7 11 &17. And i just let them eat I would tell the truth about 10 pieces my kids don't get to hyper if they do they go outside for a while and they ask to come back in watch netflix and chill. Or shower and bed. I think about 1-3 after school after home work let him play out side for a while dinner shower bed. Good luck

We susually allow a few on Halloween, then play it by ear based on behavior. Eventually the candy moves to a basket on top of the fridge & gets forgotten.

Some friends also have a “Switch Witch” who, while the kids are asleep after trick or treat, “switches” the candy into little tchotchke prizes.
