Concerta question

Hi everyone 🙂,

My 8 year old was diagnosed adhd both types at the end of the last school year. We decided to try meds because his behaviours we’re getting him into trouble at school, and more because it was starting to affect him socially. Fast forward to a few trial and error sessions later, we found Concerta (27 mg) really works for him. His impulsivity and focus improved, and his excessive talking seemed to mellow a bit. Last years teacher noticed a big difference and he hasn’t needed really anything in terms of reminders from this year’s teacher. Was having issues with falling asleep but that has improved.

My big question is that it has affected his appetite. Does that improve over time? He’s been on this higher dose for two weeks now. Some days are ok, but he had two days in a row last week where he literally ate 1 thing out of his lunchbox.

The stimulants are a good diet pill for a period of weeks to a few months but not usually long term. We found that a good breakfast and dinner (even if later than the rest of the family) keeps the weight at a wanted level. The medication did reduce overeating and helped shed a few 'extra' pounds that were not needed.
