My son is 7 y.o. who is diagnosed with ADHD last year.
He is going to have an allergy test next week as he shows allergy symptoms sometimes such as sneezing all day, stuffed nose, etc. probably from dust or pollen.
Although we're taking him for non-food allergy reactions, I'd like to know if this test can also tell if his body will react to sugar and food coloring negatively? or gluten or daily?
We've done gluten / daily free diet few years ago but didn't really show a difference.
As a lot of people in this group go through special diet for their children, I'm still curious about it.
Has any child gone to an allergy test and learned what the trigger food was for his/her behaviour?

We see two holistic pediatricians and they both agree that allergies, both environmental and food, are a big factor. Also exposure to mold. They recommend wholesome, paleo type diet and good air filters and lots of time spent outdoors. Also detox baths with Epsom salts, magnesium and sea salt. Good probiotics are also very helpful. Sometimes environmental allergies cause sleep problems and that adds to the symptoms. Good food IMO is extremely important - minimally processed, low on processed sugar, food additives, and coloring. The gut lining is the same as the brain lining so processed diets damage both and food particles that are not supposed to be in the bloodstream go to the brain. Look into GAPS (Lots of work) but good information. Paleo is a good way to go. Also staying away from grains and milk.
Thank you so much for the detailed information! It is very helpful.
I took a quick look at them. I'm going to look into more special diet. The allergy test is on Tuesday. I hope they can tell what is causing my son's allergic symptoms and what food he has sensitivity to cause his hyperactive, inattention all sorts.
How strict is your child's diet? Zero junk food? occasional treats?
It will be a big transition for my son as he loves junk food and sodas....
It’s easy to say “remove junk food and soda” but in reality it is probably really hard. My kids have never really eaten much junk food and they don’t drink sodas or juice ...but those are the biggest culprits. You can take all the supplements there are but it is all about clean eating at the core.
Thanks. It sounds like you had the right start to show your kids healthy eating! When my son was a toddler, I met a mom who shared similar challenges of taking care of her daughter. I saw her giving daughter package snack every time I saw her so I thought it is OK. Since then, my limitation is low.... Now, I have to pay more attention.
My daughter has a red dye allergy, but she had a skin reaction that you could visible see. Our allergy doctor told us that they couldn’t really test for dye allergies, that was 4 or 5 years ago so possible that has changed. We do notice our son (ADHD) has behavioral issues after having foods with dyes, especially red 40.
Thank you for sharing your experience. So your daughter HAS allergic reaction to her skin on red dyes but not behaviour reaction? As you mentioned that the allergy Dr. couldn't test for dyes, you tested on each color of dyes on her?
I'm going to find it out on Tuesday what they can tell from this test but if they can't tell which food my son has sensitivity to, I might seek for blood test to see nutrients deficiency to learn how we can improve diet routine.
