My 15 year old son has been on Concerta 18 mg for almost 3 weeks. Before the medication I would check the web pages for homework. The teachers post the work they are doing in class and I would check his book to see if he is done or even started. He was never done. It was a fight to get him to sit down and complete his homework. Today I checked the web pages, grabbed his books and started going through his work. OMG he is done!!! I had to sit down to take this all in. I was against medication but now seeing the strides he has taken the last three weeks I am upset with myself that I did not do this sooner. The struggles we have faced over the last few years, calls from schools, suspension ect ect. Not worth it. I sat down with my son after and asked him how he felt? He said the whole week he was not in trouble. He said he feels more focused in classroom. He told me he feels normal like the other kids in his class. tear. So excited for his accomplishments to date. I will pray that this will continue. I know there will still be struggles and maybe changes to his meds in the future. But at least now we can see a light at the end of tunnel! Below is my little quarterback! Well not little anymore as he is taller than me now!

Wow!!! So happy for you and for your son!!! I am still waiting, still searching for the right medication. Everything you wrote is just like my life. I feel sometimes, like I go to school again. I know more about his school/ homework’s, assignments, then he does. I am exhausted and can’t wait to write a similar post to yours!!!! Very happy for you.
One more thing: did the Concerta start to work immediately or it took those 3 weeks to kick in?
I hear ya. I am currently reading the novel The Maestro (not by choice) so I could help with his homework. lol. I noticed results right away. The first two days he was kinda crazy. He seemed really agitated. Shaking his leg while sitting really fast ect. But after that he seemed to calm down more. I think maybe his body just had to get used to the medication? Not sure how that works. But yes results could be seen right away.
That's fantastic. My son has been on Concerta 27 mg since third grade. He is in 7th grade now.
Thank you so much for posting this!!! So happy for you and your son!
