My 8 years old daughter started taking methylphenidate of 2.5 mg once a day for the past week because of her lack of concentration during class. However, neither the teacher or I see any changes. Any suggestions?

How long it takes for methylphenidate to take effect?
That's a super low dose.... Not surprising it has little effect. Work with a psychiatrist .not peds, 10mg is usually a good starting dose.
thanks for your comments. well her psychiatrist prescribe it. I was thinking that maybe she can have a learning disability, but how can I find out?
Really, you have to have her tested, not just evidence based testing. I went to a center that does extensive testing for adhd, learning disabilities, etc. It was covered by insurance. Total time was 8 hours, but we broke it up over 4 weeks. Research testing/assessments sites in your area. Really, ADHD can 'look' like a learning disability if not treated.
I agree with Crunchby, that sounds too low to be effective. My son’s psychiatrist said that pediatricians often prescribe low doses because they aren’t comfortable prescribing higher. With stimulant medications you should know quickly whether or not they will work. But you should see something.
