My Daughter was just diagnosed with Adhd at the age of 4 by her pediatrician. what's the next step cause i'm lost and overwhelm right now and have no clue what to do next. My daughter was in preschool and was basically kicked out for hitting and not doing school work, plus she's also a runner. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Look for parent training for behavior modifications and discipline methods that are more effective. Chadd offers it, and we took ours from our local children's hospital.

This sounds similar to my son. They didn't kick him out of preschool as it was a combination preschool/daycare. He would also run and hide so received my phone calls. He is now 11. I would get in to a psycologist to provide one on one support. They can assist with modifications that work at home as well as school. We also first tried a Play Therapist which he needed more but may work for your child. Best wishes!

I've been down the road. My Grandson is 6. Try a compression vest, weighted backpack, and also look for ways that she can incorporate little jobs during transition times. Daycare centers are a hard place to put into action uses of therapy tools. If preschool is an option, there you request therapy services and get her started on a 504 plan or IEP or even seek service from Child Find or developmental pathways I'm learning that is a fight out there. Stay with it, it's very hard, and search the internet as often as possible for for solutions.

How do I get started on a IEP plan, can you please provide more info on that? She will be 5 in 3 months, so i'm trying to figure this all out ahead of time before she starts kindergarten.

Great, I wish I know what was going and could get a jump start. Try talking to her future school administration about special ed services Also try talking to your local school when your register for kindergarten. Have in hand any reports or official ADHD diagnosis with you for a smooth transition.
