I need ideas on helping my 7 yo with ADHD get to sleep. I tried some natural melatonin chewable tablets but didn’t see any difference.

We use the melatonin gummies by vitafusion. They taste really good too. Target and most places sell them. I even take 2 on a night when my mind can’t relax and I am asleep in 30 minutes!!

We also use the Melatonin gummies. The boys doctor has said they are safe. Some of these medications can cause sleep problems.

My son. At the age of 5 started pulling these random all niters where he would stay up all night go to school the next day and not go to bed till maybe 11 pm that night I tried melatonin with him but it gave him the opposite effect he's 9 now and will still randomly do it not as often I tried giving him a warm bath with lavender oil in it and then rubbing it on his feet and putting socks on him within 30 min he is usually sound asleep

Hello Sonesw76,

Welcome to CHADD's ADHD Parents Together online community. The following suggestions may help you accomplish a smooth transition from wakefulness to restful sleep for your child.

1. Practice good sleep habits. Maintain a regular bed and wake schedule, even on weekends; use the bed for sleeping only and avoid having your child watch television or videos before bedtime.

2. Set up a realistic time for bed, and stick to that schedule. Behavioral techniques may be necessary to help children with ADHD stay in bed. Children with ADHD do better with structure and knowing what to expect ahead of time.

3. Monitor eating times. Eating heavily too close to bedtime can inhibit a good night's sleep. However, because some children with ADHD don't get enough calories throughout the day to maintain proper nutrition, a small snack close to bedtime can ease bedtime hunger pains and help maintain a healthy weight.

We wish you the best.
