My daughter started meds for adhd I attentive type yesterday was day 1. She seems very emotional, was crying throughout the store over nothing really. She seemed calmer but at times out of it like in a daze. We have it to her at 7:20am. And around 8ish is when it must of worn off bc she was finally running around the house chasing her sister and louder a little. But as far as eating she seemed ok eating like normal and no issue sleeping. Today is day 2 and so far just seems quieter than her usual self. No crying yet unlike yesterday but could still be too early. Did anyone experience this with their child. Monday will be the real test at school and see how she does focusing. Do these meds really help if she has a reading issue. I've read they sometimes will help them read better if they were prev struggling.

In my experience, when kids become withdrawn and overtly emotional, then the dosing may be too high. Our pediatrician started us out on a very low dosage and then we worked up to the proper dosing. That way his system could adjust and not be shocked. Our pediatrician also said that those side effects could mean you need to try a different medication. We are on 25mg Adderall XR, but started with just 5mg and over a 2 week course moved up. At one point we tried 30mg, and he had the same side effects your child is experiencing. We moved back down to 25mg and he's a lot better. Also, when he doesn't have school (or doesn't have to focus on homework/book report) we give him a lower dosage. 15mg seems to help him make better choices with his siblings (he's the oldest of 4), and keeps him from outbursts. 🙂

Our 1st 3 days went like this:

Day 1- was emotional majority of the morning, calmer at times seemed as if she was in a daze.

Day 2- was quiet and calm, even while playing outside she wasn't so loud, normally I feel like the whole neighborhood would hear her and her sister playing but yesterday not so much. No crying like day 1.

Day 3- today during the morning hrs she was a little irritable towards her sister. No matter what her sister did she would snap at her. Again quiet and calmer. Went to soccer played her game fine, after the game she was more talkative and seemed happier this afternoon than she's been the past 2 days. Medication seems to start to wear off come 7-8pm. She becomes more talkative, playing more around the house etc. Eating has been torture yesterday and today but day 1 she ate so much. She's only on 20mg of by vyvanse. So hard seeing her so quiet and calm at times in a daze. Just hurts me seeing her like this, I feel like I'm making the wrong choice of medicating her. But we've tried everything else almost.

The brain needs time to adjust to new meds and it sounds like it slowly is. Give it more time. If she gets too zoned out you can cut back or change later.

How long does this usually take? I hate seeing her not smile like she usually does. Even my mother this morning when I dropped them off as she takes them to school for me she told me she seemed sad but was very calm and quiet. Usually when they get to school she runs right to the school playground to play with the other kids before the bell rings well today she walked and played but wasn't running around like she normally would. I feel horrible.
