Hi have others had dreadful times trying to get INR between 2 and 3? For some reason I am very sensitive to anticoagulant and have been twice admitted to emergency once for rectal hemorrhage (diverticulitis not clotting) and second time for kidney bleeding.
Am 46 and aiming to fully recover from this pulmonary embolism by mid 2019
Poor you what a nightmare! What have doctors suggested? Presumably they've tried changing the dosage and it hasn't worked? How about change of drug? Perhaps you'd be less sensitive to a different one?
If you're on warfarin, sintrom or another that acts on vitamin K there may be a chance of controlling it through diet. I suggest you keep a detailed record of everything you eat and drink for a few weeks (something like Myfitnesspal will give you a breakdown which includes vitamins I think). Then you can review against your INR levels and see if anything jumps out (I assume you're getting tested frequently under the circumstances).
I'm on much higher than when I started as I started eating berries and didn't think about vit K content. They adjusted dosage and it seemed fine but then suddenly went down to 1.7 again so dose has gone up again! If it's not sorted when I have next control in a week's time I guess I'll have to give up blackberries & blueberries. Hope not as most other fruit is too high in carbohydrates for my lifestyle.

Ask your doctor about changing your med to the newer anticoagulants like Eliquis and Xarelto. You don't have to check your INR and there is no restriction on your diet.

I'm on Sintrom at the moment.I came back to live in uk after 9 yrs living abroad.Had my mutiple pe's in 2012,medication was in the form of sintrom,it was fairly easy to keep my inr between 2-3.
When I came back late last year I was ok for a month or two,then when I had to take antibiotics my inr went all over the place.
Just can't seem to get it right now so I had a long chat my the in house pharmacist who was very informative talking about all the new drugs I could switch to.
In between I've had an op on my heart and I'm due to see the consultant again next week,she,the pharmacist told me to also discuss it with him.
So when I've had a chat with him it will be up to myself as to which way I go.
I find like you it worries a little when no matter what you do,you cannot get that figure right.
