I had 'successful' gamma knife surgery for my AN over 6 years ago. It had started to blacken and was no longer growing at my last annual visit. Recently, I have begun to feel old familiar symptoms, like light headedness and dizziness from time to time. I'm really worried this means the wee blighter is back growing. Is this likely or is it just something I can expect from time to time? Is it possible to have further Gamma knife surgery if required - I remember reading it was not.
Hi I'm getting worried about my old A... - Acoustic Neuroma ...
Hi I'm getting worried about my old AN after Gamma Knife surgery over 6 years ago.
Hi Andy
If you are experiencing symptoms you really should get an appointment to see your consultant. I am not medically trained so cannot give advice but there are rare cases where ANs have been known to start growing again post-treatment (surgery or radiotherapy) so it is advisable to get it checked out. Chances are it may just be a problem with the nerves but it makes sense to find out and get it sorted.
I do know of patients who have had Gamma Knife more than once - it all depends on the individual patient's circumstances and the consultant would be the one to advise on that.
Good luck Andy - will keep my fingers crossed that it isn't re-growth. Let us know how you get on.
Jackey
Thanks Jackey. Of course I know you're right, I suppose I'm just putting it off, but we both know it isnt going to go away!
Thanks for your help, fingers crossed all is OK.
Andy
