After a sudden deterioration in my hearing I was referred to Addenbrooke's. They did a thorough hearing test after which I had an appointment with the consultant who referred me for an MRI. This was done on October 31st but I have not been told the result. However, yesterday I received an appointment for an 'assessment for hearing aids' (I have had them for years). Does this meaning that the MRI didn't show anything or is it that they recognise that I will need new aids whatever the outcome of the MRI?
Addenbrooke's - AN or not? That is th... - Acoustic Neuroma ...
Addenbrooke's - AN or not? That is the question.
Hi I have been under the care of Addenbrooke’s for my vestibular schwannoma (AN)for 3 years now and found their care outstanding. I am sure if there was an issue with the MRI they would be on it straight away but I guess the only certainty is for you to ask the questions. Best Wishes
I had my operation at Addenbrookes under mr McFarlane in April this year. They are known as the second best hospital in the UK for acoustic neuromas. I had to travel 100 miles for it to them. My local hospital issued me with a hearing aid a month before my op even though I told them it was pointless. You are in good hands at Addenbrookes.
Hi! I would email the consultant's secretary and your GP and say you feel anxious about the results and ask when you will receive feedback. I found that keeping in touch and asking for apts soon the MRI scans got me much quicker responses. The apt with audiology is likely to be due to you needing help with hearing aids and would have been made whatever the outcome of the MRI. Good luck! if in the unlikely event it is an AN you will be able to find great support and information from others on here and joining British acoustic neuroma association (BANA). I have recently joined a lip reading course with adult education, it is actually really good fun and nice to be with others who have experienced sudden hearing loss, I am the only one with an AN but it tells me that there are lots of reasons for hearing loss....so try not to panic!
