Morning everyone, in the last 6 months my tinnitus has got bad along with my hearing in one ear, had a test at specsavers, referred to gp who referred me to ent. Had that app last week and was fitted with a hearing aid, and advised I would need an mri. Now waiting for that appointment and trying to get my head around all this. Came across this community whilst doing a google search. I am 43 and wondered at what age you began to experience hearing loss? And how quickly after the mri will I get the results. Struggling with the unknown at the moment. TIA

Thank you, I will. I cannot find another reason for hearing loss and tinnitus, not a pessimist but would just like to know what I'm dealing with.

Results from my MRI took about 7 weeks, mine isn’t big, 11mms. So I guess not urgent. I suppose it will depend on the size. Good luck

Thank you Sassy77, looks like I have a bit of a wait ahead of me, not worried about the diagnosis just stressing at the not knowing. Especially as I was expecting to hear my ear was blocked, never mind a hearing aid and an mri scan . :-)

I had an mri on the 10/02/19 and received a phone call a week later asking me to come into hospital. I knew what was coming. I have a large acoustic neuroma 3.9cm and I’ve got hardly any hearing in that ear and what seems like really loud tinnitus.

I had a pre op 3 weeks ago and I’m waiting for a date to have it removed sometime this month

Asher thank you for your reply, Hearing is really bad and the tinnitus has calmed down since I had the hearing aid the whoosing was horrible! , no other symptoms. do you kind me asking if you had any other symptoms? I hope everything goes ok for you, and the waiting game is over soon and you can put your focus on recovery.

I’ve had tinnitus for around 2 years and at 1st put it down to my job and working with loud power tools. Then I noticed that I was getting hearing loss in that same ear and was referred for an urgent mri scan on the 20/05/18 which took nearly 9 months. I get headaches, really struggle with sleeping due to the deafening tinnitus and I’m sure it’s affecting my speech a little bit now although I may be being paranoid. The waiting around is the worse part I just want to get it all sorted and forget about it all.

God that's been going on for ages! An emergency scan that took 9 months! I'm so sorry you have had to go through this for such a long time. Let me know how your surgery goes, hopefully it will make a difference to you.

Hi Willow .. I am in a similar situation had a hearing test and then referred to ENT. Hi Willow I live in Northampton was referred to Kettering hospital .. MRI was done there as well .. specialist mentioned that I maybe sent to Nottingham for treatment though !

Tbh it’s a bit worrying that it’s all happened so fast but I’m optimistic that it will be nothing until I hear differently

The radiographer did say that reports are taking up to 6 weeks to get back to the referring specialist so I guess the longer I don’t hear the better the news is likely to be !

Still worried though xx

I can imagine, for me the not knowing seems worse than the diagnosis. There are so many difference on the length of time people are waiting for MRI and results? That in itself is so wrong . Did you just have the two symptoms? I have a hearing aid now given to me at the ent appointment and whilst it has helped hen there is background noise it's a nightmare, trying to get my family to understand I an struggling to hear is really difficult!!

Refered for loss of hearing , slight tinnitus and I have dizzy spells and slight balance issues .. couldn’t have a hearing aid fitted as the loss is behind the ear canal.. specialist suggested that there is a growth pressing on nerves behind ear , she then said I needed an urgent scan and here I am !

I would worry as well, BUT not knowing can can be worse than knowing. Remember AN's are not cancer. I think it's awful anyone has to wait after an MRI. I think you should go out and spoil yourself on Saturday, have a pamper session and try (not easy) and forget. When you know what your dealing with you can have a plan. You will be getting your news and I will finally be getting my MRI. keep me posted x

My appointment to hear the MRI results took 4 months (North London) so I was assuming it would be clear, shocked when it was a probable AN, but need to go back for a MRI with contrast to make sure as it's so small

My ear suddenly blocked a year ago - felt very deaf and full. Eased off after the initial sudden deafness and now have tinnitus (from losing high frequency hearing), and I struggle to hear in loud open rooms. If I'm very stressed at work then I do get dizzy spells but not very often. I have got used to it much more easily than I thought I would. I'm 44 so similar age to you :-)

Very similar to my story, I have my mri next week hopefully not long until the results although reading everyone's story god knows how long it will be! Just want to know now.

Hi Willow may I ask what hospital you’re under? Do you know where you’d be referred to if it is a AN? I only ask because I wouldn’t advise being referred to Derriford I suspect depending on which part of Somerset you are you will probably be referred to Bristol which I would certainly ask for. I had a follow up scan in June at Derriford still haven’t had any results mine are only post treatment scans every two years but have had to chase up results every time and getting a bit fed up of it! I wish you all the best and hope your appointment comes through quickly
