What if there is a third regrowth of AN?

I wrote in earlier posts that I had a 3 cm AN removed about 12 years ago. Then a few years later, due to regrowth, I had gamma knife treatment. The AN did not shrink but has remained at about 2 cm for six years. Now I am having ear aches and am soon to have an MRI. Has anyone here had a third AN growth?

I would love to know how you have handled the situation.

If you write, I will a least know one can live through a third treatment.

Thanks!!

Not heard of a third regrowth, I surely hope you are not that unlucky. Try to hang on in there until you are sure

First of all don't panic, there are lots of reasons for earache, not just ANs! Then IF you actually have a third one, I would ask for a test to see if you actually have NF2 - this is very unlikely but should be the logical "next step" should it be needed.

I met a woman who was a member of the Aberdeen BANA group who had 3 re-growths of her AN and lived to tell the tale. Try connecting with this group. I met them before I had my AN surgery for the first time and she inspired me with her story. She was probably over 70 when I met her about five years ago.

Ive had 3 and still here from the initial one 30 years ago, the last removal was 9 yr ago and there’s still some residual there , I had lots of heath problems resulting from the first one , I have a scan every 2 yrs to keep it monitored , every time I get pains in my ear or around the op site my thoughts are the same as yours, but I have to reassure myself as I guess with what’s gone off in there it’s no surprise , so I would try and relax a little , do you have regular scans ?

Thank you Freddy, for it is inspiring to know you have made it through so much with your AN situation. I do have scans every year. The last results, which just came in, show a 12mm x 6mm AN still remaining. But it has been that size for about seven years. Did you have surgery for your last procedure? If so, how did that work and what did they remove?

Hi thanks for the reply

My last op was the invasive one again , as the an had increased in size but not sure what to , but it is 15mm x 12mm atm which was left in and it’s not being troublesome , that was years ago so I can live with that now, so all seems positive in that respect, I just have to deal with the fallout of the initial An on Daily basis which I’ve learnt to manage now , with the regular scans it does make me feel at ease 😊
