Does anyone take Gabapentin following surgery? If so, does it work and what are the side affects like?
Hi I haven't had surgery but am on gabapentin for nerve pain through one of my other diseases! I find it's brilliant, I have had trigeminal neuralgia for the last week and it has really helped with that, it feels as though someone has pinched me and my face is swollen rather than the sharp stabbing pain I used to get, I find that it doesn't stop the pain altogether but it does make it bearable, I'm on 2.400mg but you usually start at 100mgs 3x daily and gradually work up, it can make you quite drowsy try taking your first pill ever around about 7pm in the evening then if it does make you drowsy you'll be more awake in the morning, Hope it works for you ok xx
I have been on gabapentin for about 5 years and take 2.700g per day, I have no side effects and find it does dull the nerve pain and makes it bearable. I'm not on it for the AN but it is helping with the Facial nerve pain. My sister takes a very small dose 100mgs per day and finds that sends her to sleep so she takes it in the evening to help her have a good nights sleep so it affects everyone differently! Only by trial and error can you find a dose that suits you, if you have a lot of nerve pain I would personally definitely try it, I hope it helps you good luck x
Hi yes I take Gabapentin following surgery - 300mg x 3 per day. I have pins and needles down the right side of my body and it dulls them a little. I find them tiring and I have developed a shake on my left side but I'm getting used to it! I did come off it for a while but the pins and needles came back so it is definitely worth it. Hang on in there, I'm getting used to it all now, it's surprising what you can accommodate.
