I've suffered severely muffled hearing after having my ears syringed / irrigated, this was attributed to what they called a temporary threshold shift. Basically, the irrigation sends vibrations through your middle ear and if it gets too much for your ear to cope with, your brain basically shuts it down to mitigate the risk of damage occurring. Mine went back to 'normal' after about 4days, but it's fkin terrifying to have to go through, particularly when you know as I do that I'm going to have some of wax removal procedure done on a regular basis going forward.

You could have your ears microsuctioned instead, that's supposed to be the safest option, but I find it just as problematic for my hearing & tinnitus as the irrigation. That just leaves trying to find someone who can remove the wax manually.
