Hi, I have a frozen shoulder, I have had it for 6 months. go and see your GP but I have found a heat lamp, massaging it with arnica oil and excercising my arm, making movements that make it hurt, all this helps but it can take a long time to heal. If you don't move it, you will loose the movement. (Gp will perhaps sugest steriods).

I use an infra-red lamp, too. It's great as I can't stick acupuncture needles where it hurts.

It is good, as a gardener, i need to have movement in both arms and as this frozen shoulder is on my domanant side, I have to try and find ways to help it heal. I use the lamp every night and with arnica oil before bed, I can still use it the next day. I do excersises like waving , putting my arm behind my back is the biggest difficulty, and if I bang it then I use very unlady like swear words ! I am determind it will heal.

Try some stretches whilst the lamp is on & you're warmed up. :)

What is best heat lamp to buy

I bought a small one from an online retailer for under £20, which I found effective. There are larger ones available for £50-£200 that can be angled, timer switches etc, if you wanted to treat your whole back, but my small cheap one works fine. I've also seen contact massage devices with a low wattage infra red light, but I don't know if those work as I've not tried one.

Ok thank you. I’ve been on eBay and ordered one on a stand which gets good reviews and free delivery £39.99 arriving Monday Wednesday. It’s nice to get advice thank you. 😊

Great! That seems like a reasonable price with a stand. Must take a look. Please keep us posted as to whether you're happy with it.

Hope it works as well for you as it does for lemonbalm & me! :)

I have had a frozen shoulder for nearly 3 years, I was treated by an orthopaedic physio and had 3 steroid injections which did nothing, next step is surgery but I probably won't bother as I'm now used to coping as it is.

Thank yes been like this for 5months now had steroid injection made the pain worse. Have now given me steroid tablets to take but reluctant to do so due to the side effects. Had private physio doctor sending me to NHS physio. I’ve never experienced pain like this before even when giving birth. Especially if I bang it or some one bumps into me. so debilitating feel so alone with it

Hi Dressme

I had same over 6 years ago. Happy to say I got it sorted. If I knew then what I know now I would have saved myself a lot of pain and broken sleep.

dry needling by Physio didn't work for me, but it got so bad I couldn't get my arm back to pull car handbrake, get fork to my mouth etc . After dry needling, then MRI, GP wanted to give me steroid injection but Physio said not to have done by gp but by an orthopaedic consultant. I was advised by my orthopaedic consultant that a steroid injection only works if given in first 6 weeks, at this point I was over a year I was in a LOT of pain , it was my left shoulder I'm right handed so in hindsight I should have used it more, stretching it up a wall, putting behind my back but I was minding it so it stiffened up even more. under anaesthetic the orthopaedic consultant manipulated it . If you check YouTube there are lots of demos but probably best not to might put you off. It worked though:) Also consultant said I didn't need an MRI he knew by looking at me what was wrong. Thereafter I did excercises as advised by hospital Physio ever 2 hours even during night initially eg crawling my fingers up a door/wall, bending behind my back etc I had a list of them. I googled there for you & similar to ones on this link. google.ie/search?q=excercis...

I can't recall how long it took to get back my shoulder where I had no pain and use again but glad to say it 99.99% back to its full strength. The excercises were key after the manipulation.

I wish you well as the pain is tough going.

Kind regards

Thank you ever so much for all the lovely advice. Mine is also left side so not been able to drive to use hand brake n gears. Had private physio yesterday she got my ROM a lot better but suffering today. I’m just so shocked how quick this came on I’m a fit person loved swimming and Pilates but unable to do these. Can’t pick up my grandson and constantly guarding my arm when he comes round. He’s only 2 I’ve been his second mum from birth so very upsetting.

I’ve found that Epsum salt bath helps and I’ve pack. I will have a look at You Tube. Thank you for taking time to answer. Nobody seems to understand how debilitating this is and think my family are so fed up with me talking about it. But it’s constantly there and all the time you guarding it you don’t get hurt. Banging it just dreadful. Bless you n thank you

You're welcome. It's interesting I was doing Pilates for 2 years and I wondered did I injure it from trying to do press ups which I'm useless at or was it our dog pulling on her lead in my left hand when I was opening door with my right hand??? Dr told me it doesn't happen to 30yr olds I was in my 40s at the time.

It's hard not doing normal things especially care for your grandchild & unseen pain gets less empathy.

From my experience Get to a good orthopaedic consultant who specialises in shoulders & he/she will get you back to good health.

All the best

Thank you Staz

It’s been getting me so down this last wk. Always looked after myself Dr says it’s my age n going through menopause so I’m looking at my diet as well. I will look at a heat lamp also and get on with some exercises. Google says it can take up to 2-3yrs 😦

Bowen therapy can fix frozen shoulders in one treatment. Look online for a Bowen therapist near you and they can fi it for you. I used to be a Bowen practitioner and fixed many a frozen shoulder.

Mine just seems to be getting worse doctors have now steroid tablets which i haven’t taken. Don’t feel confident to do so when they can affect other parts of the body. I’m taking codeine and in between paracetamol. Had private physio Friday and looking at her card she used Bowmen technique. Seeing her again Tuesday but been in more main since having the treatment is this normal. I no it had to be manipulated but I’m concerned about causing more damage
