I think the best way to lose weight is through your diet. I've tried a lot of diets and best, sustainable one I've found is the 5-2 diet. I also advocate lifting weights, but there's several things to consider there, like age, experience and so on. If you can afford it I'd temporarily get a personal trainer to ensure you're using proper technique.

Hi,

I also think the best way is through your diet, ie cutting down on calories (sugar and fats in particular, although you do need some "good" fats like olive oil for example in your diet but obviously in moderation). I personally found it easiest with a local slimming club because it gave me a good method to control my calorie intake and an incentive to stick to it because of the weekly weigh-in. I'm not sure whether I am allowed to say which one. You have to find a diet that suits you and can be sustained in the long term. It is nice to combine diet and exercise (best to consult your GP about exercise) but exercise alone will not reduce your weight - it is the calorie intake that counts. Exercise will keep you fit and your body toned. I hope this may be helpful.

Unfortunately you can't spot reduce body fat. Meaning that you can't target your belly fat but one study suggested that doing cardio in a fasted state (don't eat before), enhances the fat burning effect in your body and is as close to spot reducing belly fat as anything else! In order to lose fat, you need to reduce your body fat percentage throughout your whole body.

The first place I gain weight is in my stomach- uggggg I hate that! So I do a lot of cardio running or elevation hiking. If running and or climbing mountains is not your thing- I can tell you from experience that Jillian Micheals ripped in 30 will target your stomach weight and zap that tummy into shape at the completion of the 30 days. But if you take more than 40 days to do ripped in 30- it just won't have the same result. There are several other HIIT style Jillian Micheals workouts- you can get the DVD's on Amazon or local library and do them at hime. I love Jillian Michaels "HIIT" workouts- which is - High Intensity Interval Training----they are only 26 minutes of actual working out- but it is nonstop- no breaks- you will be sweating profusely after 10 minutes- maybe sooner and for the remainder of the workout- If you are not sweating- then you are not putting out enough effort. You'll do some weights- so you need 5 pound dumbbells or 5 and 8 pounds. Cardio along with Clean 80% dirty 20% or so diet, and you will lose the belly fat.
