I will be joining the gym shortly but want to lose weight around my stomach and upper chest and need some help deciding what equipment is best for me to use. A well as this, I am new to the whole 'exercising' regime so I do struggle on simple things like push ups and sit ups and I actually cannot do a single sit up properly and can do about 2-4 push ups before giving in.

When you join the gym you should be given an induction before you can start using it. During the induction you will be shown the machines and they will have the option to make a plan with Which machines to use and how long you should use them. Normally when this needs adapting you can ask them to help you update your personal plan. Enjoy the gym!

The best way to lose weight is dieting. This can certainly be supplemented by exercise. If possible try to work with a personal trainer temporarily to get a good idea of what to do. Focus on full body strength as working anything out burns calories (eg fat doesnt just drop from the areas you're working). Good luck!
