Morning all! Wondered if anyone would be interested in a "Take Up A New Activity" challenge for April?
I'm planning to try something new each week as I get bored just going to the gym and as the weather really feels like it's starting to turn now (not to mention I'm on school holidays so currently full of the joys of Spring!) it seems like a good time to spice up the old exercise regime.
Things could include trying a different class at the gym, skipping, trying a new YouTube video of step aerobics or similar, attempting HIIT, taking someone's dog for a walk, insisting on a family walk up a nearby hill, starting yoga, doing some basic weight stuff with tins of beans in the living room, going ice skating or to a roller disco, crazy golf, or taking up something totally new like stand up paddle boarding - this is one of my aims this month!
Let me know if you fancy joining in! The very marvellous moreless is going to help the inept technophobe in me do the clever things like pinning the posts. π

I will join you for 3 weeks, away for last week. I am going to try skipping one week, strength exercise another, as I'm not very good at keeping that up and then I will wait for inspiration from others.
I always think skipping sounds like a good idea, then do it for three seconds and feel like I'm actually dying! How did I do it for hours when I was a kid?! Look forward to hearing how you get on!
I will probably feel exactly the same, may have to swap weeks around as I need to buy a skipping rope!
Oh yes please, this could be my motivation to start with rebuilding the strength in my shoulder, I've been putting it off as I was worried I'd do damage, but my physio has said I must be doing strength exercise to become fully functional.
So week 1, tins of beans basic movements
Week 2, 1.5lb weight basic movements
Week 3, 1.5lb weight kettle works workout
Week 4 2.5lb weight kettle works workout
Going to do it on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday
With swimming on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I cycle to and from work 5 days and walk 10,000 6 out of 7 days, Saturday is my rest day
Hopefully with it being a challenge I'll feel accountable xx
Wowzers! You're doing loads! But it's easy to forget about strength isn't it...so glad the challenge might help you to get involved with the beans tins! π
I've got lots of things I want to try, but how many of them I actually get round to doing is another matter! Definitely want to have a go at stand up paddle boarding and kayaking which they do on the River Exe estuary near me. Might also finally work out where the nearest ice rink is and join the badminton club at my gym. And I am definitely getting my roller skates out and skating along the seafront.
Today I am mainly decorating, so hopefully the amount of rollering I've done is the similar to a gym visit!
Hi BadlyDrawnBadger This sounds fab! I have just posted an April Exercise Challenge so if you fancy adding whatever exercise you try towards it then please feel free. Would be a nice cross over. I was just thinking how I could vary up the exercise as I have pretty much nailed the time each week but now fancy a little bit more variety. I am loving my ballet barre class and pilates but now that the weather is getting a little better it would be nice to get outside a bit more. I got my scooter out for the first time last week which was great so hopefully that will now feature. Once it gets proper warm we have canoes and my friend and I did a couple of trips on the river last year instead of the gym. She also has a paddle board but I have been too chicken to try it. Maybe this is my chance... Thank you for the incentive to try something different. Am off to make a list...
Hey - I will definitely be getting involved with the exercise challenge too. Because for all my grand plans, I'll probably just end up at gym most days!
I sooo want to try paddle boarding! I see a guy every day out on the sea and it looks ace. I bet you have to have epic core strength though not to end up falling off, so let's see how that goes!
Yes, core strength is key and one of my weakest areas. Am working on it and it has improved so much but it's still not great. My friend fell off last year, properly head first into the Thames - it was very funny but I'm not sure I'm ready for river swimming yet!
That's what I intend to do .I do plenty of dog walking, I do a bit of gardening but I am looking to do something different. This week I think I will try dancing
Excellent plan! What kind of dancing are you going to go for? I did tap dancing for a while as they held an adult class at the local church hall - it was fun, if not a little like being in a room full of toddlers with saucepans!
Maybe start with a YouTube video of something different like Zumba, or putting together a playlist and dancing in the living room for 20mins, or adding some strength stuff in (am a big fan of the tins of beans!) and then see if you get inspired!
Yes I think I need strength stuff, I have noticed my ability to lift heavy objects and move the furniture around when cleaning becoming more and more difficult
Me too . I'm going to try the tinned beans exercise!
Just bought a lovely dress for an august wedding, but it is sleeveless and since I lost weight my under arms definitely need help π ( realise I'm doing this a bit late in life but can but try !!!)
Thank you, Im sure mine won't be the only droopy arms there, but I will be purchasing a bolero jacket "just in case". I'm just pleased I can fit a size 12 dress, sod the arms!ππ
