Hi. I have just recently purchased a Nutribullet. Getting on OK, but struggling with the green leafy concept. All my blasts end up like green sludge. Anyone got any thoughts/ideas?

Oh dear. Liquidising food is one of the worst things you can do. Take fruit for instance. You can put apples, bananas, grapes, greens, juice all into the thing and blend away and you'll probably have a lovely tasting drink that you can drink in a few minutes. Now, lay that food out in front of the blender and try eating it all. You'll probably feel full before you got to the end. It really is best to eat food rather than blend it unless you (low fat has more sugars in and the fat in a tub of yoghurt is very filling and your body needs fat to metabolise certain vitamins). Use a smaller plate and one other thing, DO SOME EXERCISE. But here's the thing with exercise, do it slowly so that you can talk throughout, that way you will want to go and do it again. Go too fast and you'll get a stitch and won't want to do it again. Slow is best. Check out my exercise video. The link is below. Take walking, go fast and you'll be tired quickly, go slow and you'll be able to walk further for longer burning more calories.
Good luck and please stay away from green sludge. It really won't help in the long term. You need to make changes that are life long and not quick fixes to get a quick loss.....

Interesting. Good point about the sugar spike, not good for diabetics at all, and also the need to chew and digest food as nature intended. I think they have their place though, for the sake of variety, and we all like to experiment with things like this to keep food interesting. I definitely won't be going on a smoothie binge any time soon!
I think the point is not use them as a meal replacement, but as a health enhancer. I have no problem with my weight, sugar spikes or anything else. They are a good way to get lots of fruit and veg in your diet, as are homemade soups. I think anything that helps us to get more goodness into us can't be all bad. Another interesting article I read recently showed that scientifically those who had one nb a day for a month showed significant improvement in their skin tone, less wrinkles etc, This was not a nb advertisement, just a magazine experiment and the skin tests were done properly measuring elasticity, etc. I would be happy with just that result!
If you was to lay the food out on a table and then try to eat it you would probably get full before the end. Drinking food really doesn't help you learn about eating sensibly. Yes, have one or two a week if you are in a rush but it will be digested extremely quickly leaving you hungry sooner. You need food that gives a slow sugar spike and releases it's energy slowly throughout the day as that way you stay fuller for longer..
Hi Ruby8 - you'd think I was pushing drugs by the responses ha ha! I find the nb and soup the best ways to get loads of fruit and veg into me easily. I am actually not trying to lose weight, just eat healthily and I find that the nb does fill me up. I always add flax seeds or chia or something too. Just struggling a bit with the green element as I really want to try to add more veg to them, but my nbs don't look like those in the book lol.
I am not actually trying to lose weight, just get 5 or more of my 5 a day. I don't have a problem with the weight maintenance as such, just know I won't eat that amount of fruit and veg. I always add chia or flax too or something. Just can't get my head round the green element as everything ends up green and looking like pond water.
I suspect that photos presented in cookbooks and especially in commercial products will most certainly have been enhanced. Just think how our plate of home cooking never looks quite like the picture in the cookbook...
This is interesting. I found a breakfast smoothie recipe on the nhs website, mango, peach and spinach. It looks a lovely vibrant green in the photo. I'll have to let you know how it turns out in reality!
Ok just ignore this if you know this already....Smoothies i think are ok as long as you find them sustaining. I find i am hungry very quickly after smoothies but some people can have one for breakfast and feel full all morning. I think it helps to add protein such as protein powder, yogurt or ground chia seeds. Avoid using tropical ffruits as they are highest in sugar. Low sugar fruits are kiwis, apples, pears and especially berries.
If you want a grreen smoothie try this: 2 kiwis, 1 pear, large handful fresh spinach, sprig of mint, tbsp ground chia, squeeze of lime, and some ice cold water to make into preferred consistency. If you keep the fruit in the fridge you wont need icecubes.
I really like this one so hopefully you wont find it too sludgy. If you dont like it though, maybe try a berry smoothie without anything green?

I like a simple banana smoothie with just one banana and natural, or greek yoghurt, and some semi skimmed milk. It just makes a nice creamy kind of drink, and us dieters might miss creamy treats!
Yes, I like this too, but I am trying to do the whole leafy greens thing I know we should try to have more veg than fruit. However, if the choice is between your smoothie and a load of junk food - then healthwise your smoothie wins every time. Surely every time we do that instead of eat junk it's got to be a winner and by choosing your smoothie, it does encourage you to make healthier choices because you don't want to eat as much rubbish.
I believe it may be good in winter for veg packed soups to get in your 5 a day.☺
Had a nb bought as a present. Then joined SW who tell you blitzed/cooked fruit increases sugar content. So I use it to make soups. (Only way to get hubby to eat veg). Makes smoother blend than a processor, so although not the norm, I wouldn't be without it.
GHi this is Fredanew3 I was so dismayed to read the adverse comments as I am waiting for one to be delivered. I had listened to a friend who thinks they are marvellous but I wasn't impressed about the fruit part anyway as I think it an extravagant and unnecessary way toi have your fruit element. I have just ordered it for soups, to help in preparation (Ihope) of veg. for making soups as a good way to increase vegetables in hubbys diet. Hope I won't regret it! At least it was half price from the orginal £80plus tag
You won't regret it, they are so quick and easy to use and clean. At the end of the day, do you (or hubby) at the minute get at least 5 a day? If not, will this help you achieve that? If so, what have you go to lose? Don't listen to all the negativity. Nb does become a bit addictive, even the sludgy ones lol and I really do try to get more fruit and veg in my diet because of it. Yes I know we should all eat everything we should, but if we all did that we wouldn't be on this forum would we?
