Hi Sebz123,
I think peanuts are healthy, and there is an article written here which also suggests it's a good food to snack on:
nutrition.about.com/od/card...
However, I would avoid the salty peanuts, to keep salt levels down, and also they might make you end up drinking more higher calorie drinks potentially.
I enjoy having some peanut butter and a banana on toast sometimes as a snack, and find that is really filling and satisfying.
Hope you're having a good week.

Dear Lowcal,
Thank you for your response. Yes I think you are right just had a snack on peanuts and felt guilty drunk a lot of water and I feel extremely full even when the peanuts were not a lot. They really do feel you up. Am losing it as I am beginning to get more hungry the past two weeks.....After months of being extremely good and losing it now. I don't understand why....
Hi Sebz123,
I wonder if Christmas is impacting on your resolve at all? It is a testing and challenging time of year, and I don't think we should underestimate it. It can bring mixed feelings, and there are many more temptations around at this time of year.
I don't know if you're doing the NHS 12 week plan, but I would recommend it for its excellent structure. Ensuring you're eating sufficient food, and choosing healthy options is important, because if you deprive yourself then you can end up reaching for less healthy options, and potentially eating to excess.
Anyway, glad to hear you've been doing well for the past few months, that is really great!
Keep up your resolve, and hopefully you'll get through this more challenging time, and be celebrating your successes in the New Year!

Really useful thread. Will add this to my list of allowable snacks.

Very useful indeed👍
Adding peanut butter to my shopping list too.
The high fibre content of nuts means that not all the fat is absorbed by the body.
Perhaps have a look at other nuts available, too, they are a good source of nutrients so are ideal for a snack or part of a main meal.
This link has a useful list.

I buy the peanuts in their shells, roast them and find that cracking them open slows down my consumption. I estimate they are roughly 10 cals per unit (two nuts in a shell). You also get the extra fibre around each nut (that red film) which is good for you.
I love those, too. But it's so hard to find good "monkey nuts" these days. The ones I've seen in the supermarkets are rubbish. All shell, and tiny peanuts. On second thoughts, that's probably a good thing!
LOL. Thank you.

Hi again,
Here's another review of peanut butter, it discusses findings in a bit more detail:

Interesting article Lowcal, thanks. I used to eat quite a lot of peanut butter until I discovered almond and hazlenut butters both of which I like much more, so it wasn't a decision to stop eating it just a taste preference for alternatives. I wonder how they compare nutritionally? ☀️
Hi Fran,
I also love other nut butters - in particular Brazil nut butter and almond butters. I've not tried the hazelnut butter - might have to put that on my Christmas list...
I would imagine they compare well nutritionally - as each nut has its own nutrients. I think nuts generally are healthy options. I usually put some nuts (walnuts, brazil nuts and almonds) on my porridge in the mornings.
Hope you have a great weekend, and thanks to Sebz for this great thread about peanuts leading onto love of nuts and nut butters - I really like it!

Pumpkin seeds are also very filling, I toast them for a few minutes which adds lots of flavour. They are full of very good vitamins, articles.mercola.com/sites/...

Best thing to do with peanuts is leave them in their shells and place ten of them carefully on the ground at two foot intervals. Can you hop around them? If yes then eat. If no then repeat test with two footed jumps.
You probably won't feel like eating them after that...👯😏
Red skin peanuts I think are the best - obviously in small quantities.
I think they are good for keeping blood sugar levels low too - but I'm no expert
Yes. Peanuts (the unsalted ones) contain healthy nutrients and good fats so to nibble on a few is good. But, they are very high in calories so too many will make you fat
If you ever did the experiment where you put a peanut on the end of a needle and hold it in a bunsen burner and heat water with the flame and then do same with other foods its quite shocking how long one will burn, that's how much energy there is in a peanut!!
Peanuts, cashews, almonds all of them are lovely! I think also quite healthy in sensible quantities; the problem is stopping! Look at the calorie content in the amount you want to snack on. I use cashews in a fast blender to thicken soups (instead of potatoes etc). It makes the soups mega-filling and helped me a lot when I really was feeling very hungry having cut down from what I was eating
