Hi jane010669,

Sorry, I don't really do hip:waist ratio, so I can't really comment too well, but if you're overweight then I'd recommend going to the NHS live well lose weight pages, aving a good read around of those, calculating your BMI, downloading the free 12 week plan and then making a decision about how much weight your need to lose.

Have a good read around these blogs too, there's lots of good free information on these too.

If you have concerns about your risk of diabetes, or indeed any medical issue, I would suggest you talk with your GP. I understand that they do some tests nowadays - for some sort of anti-body, if I remember rightly - where they can determine if you are at risk of developing diabetes or not.

Good luck with it.

I am certainly not overweight am 8st 4lbs but according the the chart my hip waist ratio still puts me at risk of diabetes and heart disease. My waist and hips are basically nearly the same size. In fact I think the method of calculation is flawed as I was at lower risk when i was heavier as my hips were then a bit bigger than my waist. It is all very confusing. I only have a BMI of 19.5.
