Vegan and keto?

Are there any vegan keto people here? I'm looking at keto and I'm looking at low protein and I'm wondering if its possible to incorporate both...looks like high protein from meat and milk can be very damaging for inflammation and lots of things... But is keto vegan even possible?

Hi there Hidden

Following Keto as a Vegan is something I'd never thought about so I looked it up, here's the link.

Thank you for posting the question as this looks interesting.

Ah cool! I have seen some sites but this one has recipe.s I can never get my head around a diet until I see exactly what do you eat. I had not thought about nuts. It doesn't seem bad!! I need a rest from my usual diet it seems like way more doable than I'd imagined! Who'd a thunk! Thanks for googling that for me seems rather lame that I didn't do that myself lol!

It's not easy sometimes to get your head around things but once you see it in print and see recipes then things become a lot clearer. Oh nuts are wonderful things to eat and so good for you. You're welcome, I'm always googling things, can you freeze this/can you freeze that etc.😉

There's several vegan keto cook books. I had one recommended to me which was simply called "Vegan Keto." There's a low carb healthy fat forum on here that I've heard positive things about, although it's not veggie or vegan, it might help to have support from others interested in keto/ low carbs. I've found the idea of low carbs and veganism too restrictive - I have a friend who has lost weight doing it but her meals never looked great. I think it's do-able though, it would be great if you report back and let us know what you eat!

To be honest I have gone vegan before and it didn't suite me at all... But I also can't eat a lot of meat. So I want some vegan and veg recipes to fill in the gaps. The last time I tried keto I was sick of fish and meat and butter and cheese and I did have tofu but it never even crossed my mind you could make a dinner using walnuts! I would do some beans and ruin the days keto. So I'm just getting some recipes. I have some b12 and iron issues so I don't want to make that any harder than it is. But I've always loved vegan recipes ...cashew cream is the best invention! Actually have to check cashews might be too carby! A lot of things have carbs and you don't realise until you try to avoud them that they're in everything!

That makes sense, it's always good to have some variety. There's some great people on the Weight Loss Support Forum who know a lot about low carb and keto, they seem to have a lot of variety in the meals, so that might help. Good luck! :) I know I eat a load of carbs but seem to be ok as long as I'm mindful when it comes to the more refined ones. :)

Totally. I bene reading that sweet potatoes yams and a whole lot of other carbs are pretty low GI and good for lots of things.... So I've been putting more of those in in place of pastas and wheaty things. I have actually done my first day of keto today! Didn't think I'd go so soon! But to encourage my mom I did it with her. She's got diabetes and CKD so she needs to keep meat protein low. we had sea bass and I made a weird cabbage stuffed with claiflour alminds and cream thing. Which cabbage curry on the side. Very weird lol! I feel a bit craving so I have zylotol gum which is tricking my brain. I can't wait to see how it feels when I go into ketosis. Buying a breath tester tomorrow. Or pee sticks whatever we can buy locally. So think it takes a few days we will see! Thanks!

If you feel your fat intake is sufficient, don't include it extra because you think you need it. Keto prefers that 75 percent of your daily calories come from fat, but that's just a preference, not a necessity. Keto is almost impossible without cooking in the kitchen. If you want a healthy and balanced diet, put it in your apron and start cooking. Keto is one of those diets where you're not sure you don't have food, except for what's called keto-flu. It can be a transition period where your system adapts to burning fat for energy rather than carbs. I recommend eatpropergood.com/blogs/a-p... as there were expert opinions about this diet when I was losing weight. This diet helped me a lot.
