Good morning Vegans! My name is Tanya. I just went Vegan again, for good last week (after years of trying). I have to lose 50lbs, and I am truly hoping I can find a way to eat this vegan diet that will help me. I have high Cholesterol and triglycerides, and I'm 50yrs old. (I'm a married, mother of 5 by the wayπ). After my first week, I GAINED a pound, even though I only ate whole foods. π. I am wondering if my green smoothies cause weight gain. Or if it's true that I really do need to eliminate olive oil? π€
I would love any suggestions.
Looking forward to meeting and supporting you as well.

Hi Tanya
I very rarely add oil to my cooking and what I tend to eat are one pot dishes, my favourite kind of food. Curry is my favourite food. I keep my weight stable by exercise, plenty of water and I very rarely buy anything ready made.
Try and fill your plate/dish with extra veggies. When I have a bowl of curry I never have rice, I have quinoa instead which is a protein based food, and cook extra veggies and add them to the curry.
Also, re the weight gain, it depends what you put in your smoothies. As you were a pound heavier that could actually just be your body getting used to a different way of eating or even hormones.
Wishing you the very best of luck and I'm glad you've changed back to a Vegan diet.

Welcome back Tanya, great to see your back with us π
I do use olive oil, I always aim to have the cold pressed and I have not noticed it affecting my weight. Maybe you happened to do sligthly less exercise that first week? Have you tried that fry light spray instead? not something I have used but it helps in cutting back on the amount you use at one time
