I completed the couch to 5K 2 years ago and have been running ever since, doing as many park runs as possible. Iβm currently getting myself fit for when the park runs resume.
And also I think what's really helpful for knee pain.. I've been taking tumeric and black pepper capsules for about a year now, I used to have pain in my fingers from arthritis.. no pain any more!!!
Hi sparky, I recently ran a 10k too and have noticed that what I eat makes a huge difference (recently vegan pizza vegan burgers vegan cake) so have had a bit of a revamp. I like to eat fried tofu marinated with paprika, Chili, garlic with different combos of veg and noodles. Salad with beans and dressing for lunch, granola and yoghurt with fruit for breakfast π
Ooh love a noodle dish.. I make a mean creamy pasta with blended butter beans, nutritional yeast, turmeric and black pepper.. some pine nuts with some soy milk blend all together..makes a lovely sauce to mix with veg and pasta π€€π€π
That's really interesting and you've obviously done a great job. I haven't attempted running but have been doing home workouts 4 times a week for about 7 months (after years of only really walking here and there), usually Chloe Ting YouTube videos and resistance band training. Progress is slow but I've definitely seen improvements.
I enjoy a protein booster smoothie/shake in the mornings, particularly after exersize, and usually include banana, 1 other serving of fruit or veg, pea protein, tahini, nuts or oats and soya milk/water. It's tasty and keeps me going.
Hi - I don't have any personal experience of running 25k, but I wondered it you'd watched The Game Changers. I went to the cinema to watch it but it's available on Netflix. From memory there were some examples of how a vegan diet helped various athletes. There's also the Vegan Runners organisation veganrunners.org.uk/
Thanks, yes I watched it, absolutely brilliant!! I also follow Dr Greger's nutritional facts.org he gives great nutritional advice.. on lots of foods to treat many health conditions β
Hi sparky66. I am not running at the moment (lockdown means no public loos!). I bought a spin bike back in autumn 2020, so getting my main cardio stuff on that at the moment.
I've been a vegan for a couple of years. When I first switched, from being a vegetarian, my running took a real nose dive. I lost about a minute for my time for a km, so it took a minute longer! Also I couldn't run much over 10k without feeling utterly exhausted. I slowly built back up to my usual pace. I haven't noticed any further improvement though. To be honest I was a bit disappointed, which is silly really.
Well done, you are doing incredibly well.
I was jogging and going further and further until I stupidly broke my foot last year and it hasn't been the same since although it doesn't stop me power walking which I do about 5 to 6 times a week. I didn't realise I broke my foot initially last year, it was just painful to walk on and I kept soaking it until I realised it got to a point where it was no longer improving. I was sent to the hospital for an x ray and that's when I'd found out I'd broken it but it had healed by that time. Fortunately I was able to ride my bike after I'd broken my foot in the May and once my foot felt okay I started walking again. My foot hurts if I jog.
I've been a Vegan since October 2018 and I have to say I'm as fit as a fiddle, I walk as fast as I can up very steep hills and although out of breath when I get to the top I do not have to stop.
I've had IBS for many years but after food poisoning in November 2018 from a manufactured rice dish my IBS got worse so I went on the Low Fodmap diet under a Dietician, I've so much better. This has to be one of my favourite recipes.
So sorry about your foot, but it's not stopped you From keeping fit ππͺThanks for the recipe I will definitely try this π sorry for short reply I'm all shopped out π
Hi sparky66. I'm vegan and cook a lot of stir fries with wild garlic, onions, crunchy veg, chilli noodles. I have also juiced for many years which seems to give me energy. Thanks for liking my post earlier as it showed me the way to this forum which may give me some ideas. I can be a little dull in my approach - replacement milks, soya substitutes so this forum looks like a great place to re-energise
Awe so glad you found this forum.. some great recipe ideas and just a great place to ask for advice or ideas πΏππHave a look at nutritional facts.org

You might know me from C25K, Bridge and Marathon... I run on average 30 miles a week. 2.5 years on vegan diet. Never had so much energy and/or achieved so much. I also work out every day before work.
We eat a lot of hemp seeds, flax, maca, cacao, nutritional yeast etc as well as cashews, mixed nuts. I try to ensure at least 1 Brazil nut a day for selenium.
We don't have a lot of time for cooking in the week especially so do use a fair amount of fake meat products. We are both in our mid 40s, never been healthier or more active. ππ»
Great to hear your experience... Honestly speaking I've been between vegan and vegetarian for over 5 years so I can't r call how was it before. But I still notice huge improvements on my menstrual pains between eating dairy or not. I do have turmeric daily to decrease inflamation and try to add lots of antioxidants like berries, greens, etc.
I'm a bit lazy about protein shakes but it makes it easier to up my protein without eating too many beans and nuts. I find these hard to digest so I try to eat them in moderation.
I usually have Huel as shake because it has all the vitamins and nutrients needed beside protein.
I've been juicing fresh turmeric so I usually don't add pepper because the fresh juice already taste kinda horrible π . But when I do the golden milk I add coconut milk and black pepper.
