Any Personal Recommendations for βHealthy", Tasty, Non-Dairy π« π π π π¦ (Vegan) Cheeses? π§ π
.
Nearly fell out of chair πΊ when (non-V), cheese-loving π₯° loved one requested βVegan Cheeseβ for sandwiches π₯ͺ & wraps π― !! π³ π
[After popping eyeballs π back into head π , I raise query here as Iβm not familiar with non-dairy cheese π§ foods (βtransitionβ cheeses).]
.
Iβll google research π . But, in meantime, if youβve ready recommendations at the tips of your fingers π (or the tip of your tongue π ), Iβd very much appreciate hearing about them. π π
.
[I follow WFPB plant-based π perspective (Dr. John McDougall, Dr. Michael Klaper, Dr. Michael Greger, T. Colin Campbell, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Dr. Alan Goldhamer, et. al.), so the lower the [Salt Oil Sugar] the better. ππ ]
Thank you kindly, in advance, for any π§ recommendations youβd like to share.
I wouldn't worry too much about the 'healthy' part of your question. Vegan cheese is likely to be relatively more healthy than non vegan simply because of the absence of animal fat and protein. But it's still likely to be high in fat and protein (even if it they do contain so-called good fats).
So if a vegan wants to eat cheese, I would say regard it as a treat to be enjoyed in small amounts, and go for it, but don't over indulge, and don't spend too much time trying to seek out the 'healthyist'.
. . . Occasional, small servings sounds key π .
.
Thank you. Much appreciated, benwl. π βΊοΈ

[Am grateful π theyβre at least looking at non-dairy alternatives instead of animal dairy π§ . Am guessing (quietly hoping π€« π€) theyβll eventually transition off βfauxβ π§ altogether. π€π€ . . . All in good time π° . . . all in good time . . . π . . . π . . . .βΊοΈ π π πΊ π ]
[Havenβt a clue π΅οΈββοΈ how reliable/ accurate the lists π are (or how tasty π / βgoodβ the π§s are), but itβs a jumping off point π€ΎββοΈ .]
Vegan cheeses are a new creation and I think it may take some years before truly superb ones appear. After all cow-based cheeses have had time to mature, in both senses. Afaik, or am I guessing a new vegan cheese is being launched every day.
Hopefully new π§ π§ π§ will improve in taste π (& nutrients πͺ ) over time. π€π€
[Just grateful π those astonishing π³ words ("Iβd be willing to give vegan cheese a try") came out of the blue π π΅ β out of loved oneβs mouth π£π¬ !! (Stunned π― . Shocked π΅. Mind-blown π€―.) Guess old dogs π can learn new tricks π€ΉββοΈ (just as old π cheese can mature in flavour)!! . . . π π π ]
Iβm not a huge fan of vegan cheese. I sometimes buy violife Parmesan type cheese but itβs not great and sometimes I think it even detracts from what you are putting it on, rather than adding to it. I have also tried cheddar style cheese with cranberries and that was okay for a change but again a bit disappointing.
There is still along way to go as far as vegan cheese is concerned. We just have to wait for someone to hit the jackpot π° with the right combination of flavours! π
Thank you for taking time to note/ share π§ experience. π π
Iβll pass info π along.
[If it serves as merely a temporary βtransition foodβ, thatβs good enough!! Iβd consider that βwinning a jackpot π° β !! . . . π π . . . Just βgetting offβ animal dairy π§ would be a remarkable 1st step π£ .]
After a while, donβt think we even think about π€ π (or desire π ) π§ at all? π€ π€·ββοΈ π€¦ββοΈ
Getting over the (addictive) hump γ°οΈ seems hardest part (biggest struggle π€ΌββοΈ ) β taking the needed time π° π π to try & patiently break π§ β through π₯ the addictive cycle β»οΈ .

Click on the link please. My youngest son uses this for different dishes and recommended this to me. And is not expensive either plus B12 in it. Enjoy your Easter!!!
Thank you kindly, for bringing up nutritional yeast flakes, 447510 (4οΈβ£4οΈβ£7οΈβ£5οΈβ£π)!

[Aside: Have heard nutritional yeast flakes ( google.com/search?as_q=nutr... ) referred to as "vegan crack"! π― π π If thatβs the case, perhaps thatβs a better (βhealthierβ π€ ) thing to get addicted to! π (Imagining π€ π β¨ it now . . . jonesing π° π π₯Ί for some βyeast flakesβ ( , β , β , β ), scoring some βflakesβ behind the βflake factoryβ π , OD-ing π΅ π on B12 . . . π€£ π€ͺ π )]

Happy Easter π£ to you too, 4οΈβ£4οΈβ£7οΈβ£5οΈβ£π! π π
You welcomed Kai. I shall asked my son how to use this properly. I bought some myself today and shall try these yeast flakes, sprinkled on my soup for tea later. There is a website here
[Thank gawd for the Internet πΈ !! π π Where would we be without it?! Banging 2 stones together in a cave π³ trying to make π₯ ?? . . . π π ]

Yes, please let us know how you use your yeast flakes, 4οΈβ£4οΈβ£7οΈβ£5οΈβ£π , & how you like it.
But he has vitamin B12 deficiency now. So he didnt look after himself very well. Lots of good ideas here for him. Hope he's interested as it would help him to have a good vegan diet.
Found this too! It is not suitable for everybody, if you suffer from mentioned health conditions in this article. Mine from Holland and Barrett is gluten free. . Anyway time for tea and flakes and heart meds again.
. . ."Despite all the benefits that nutritional yeast may offer, this supplement is not suitable for everyone. Researchers have recommended that individuals with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), glaucoma, and hypertension avoid using nutritional yeast because it could make their symptoms worse.
People with a yeast sensitivity or allergy should also take care to avoid any exposure to nutritional yeast.
In addition, some researchers say that people with a higher risk of gout may want to avoid nutritional yeast."
I've tried Asda's 'Free from' vegan cheese and its taste is acceptable, and works great in a toasted sandwich with rocket and beetroot! I have also tried the Koko dairy-free Cheddar but there's a prominent coconut odour/taste, so it's not for me.
