Any Personal Recommendations for โHealthy", Tasty, Non-Dairy ๐ซ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ฆ (Vegan) Cheeses? ๐ง ๐
.
Nearly fell out of chair ๐บ when (non-V), cheese-loving ๐ฅฐ loved one requested โVegan Cheeseโ for sandwiches ๐ฅช & wraps ๐ฏ !! ๐ณ ๐
[After popping eyeballs ๐ back into head ๐ , I raise query here as Iโm not familiar with non-dairy cheese ๐ง foods (โtransitionโ cheeses).]
.
Iโll google research ๐ . But, in meantime, if youโve ready recommendations at the tips of your fingers ๐ (or the tip of your tongue ๐ ), Iโd very much appreciate hearing about them. ๐ ๐
.
[I follow WFPB plant-based ๐ perspective (Dr. John McDougall, Dr. Michael Klaper, Dr. Michael Greger, T. Colin Campbell, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Dr. Alan Goldhamer, et. al.), so the lower the [Salt Oil Sugar] the better. ๐๐ ]
Thank you kindly, in advance, for any ๐ง recommendations youโd like to share.
I wouldn't worry too much about the 'healthy' part of your question. Vegan cheese is likely to be relatively more healthy than non vegan simply because of the absence of animal fat and protein. But it's still likely to be high in fat and protein (even if it they do contain so-called good fats).
So if a vegan wants to eat cheese, I would say regard it as a treat to be enjoyed in small amounts, and go for it, but don't over indulge, and don't spend too much time trying to seek out the 'healthyist'.
. . . Occasional, small servings sounds key ๐ .
.
Thank you. Much appreciated, benwl. ๐ โบ๏ธ

[Am grateful ๐ theyโre at least looking at non-dairy alternatives instead of animal dairy ๐ง . Am guessing (quietly hoping ๐คซ ๐ค) theyโll eventually transition off โfauxโ ๐ง altogether. ๐ค๐ค . . . All in good time ๐ฐ . . . all in good time . . . ๐ . . . ๐ . . . .โบ๏ธ ๐ ๐ ๐บ ๐ ]
[Havenโt a clue ๐ต๏ธโโ๏ธ how reliable/ accurate the lists ๐ are (or how tasty ๐ / โgoodโ the ๐งs are), but itโs a jumping off point ๐คพโโ๏ธ .]
Vegan cheeses are a new creation and I think it may take some years before truly superb ones appear. After all cow-based cheeses have had time to mature, in both senses. Afaik, or am I guessing a new vegan cheese is being launched every day.
Hopefully new ๐ง ๐ง ๐ง will improve in taste ๐ (& nutrients ๐ช ) over time. ๐ค๐ค
[Just grateful ๐ those astonishing ๐ณ words ("Iโd be willing to give vegan cheese a try") came out of the blue ๐ ๐ต โ out of loved oneโs mouth ๐ฃ๐ฌ !! (Stunned ๐ฏ . Shocked ๐ต. Mind-blown ๐คฏ.) Guess old dogs ๐ can learn new tricks ๐คนโโ๏ธ (just as old ๐ cheese can mature in flavour)!! . . . ๐ ๐ ๐ ]
Iโm not a huge fan of vegan cheese. I sometimes buy violife Parmesan type cheese but itโs not great and sometimes I think it even detracts from what you are putting it on, rather than adding to it. I have also tried cheddar style cheese with cranberries and that was okay for a change but again a bit disappointing.
There is still along way to go as far as vegan cheese is concerned. We just have to wait for someone to hit the jackpot ๐ฐ with the right combination of flavours! ๐
Thank you for taking time to note/ share ๐ง experience. ๐ ๐
Iโll pass info ๐ along.
[If it serves as merely a temporary โtransition foodโ, thatโs good enough!! Iโd consider that โwinning a jackpot ๐ฐ โ !! . . . ๐ ๐ . . . Just โgetting offโ animal dairy ๐ง would be a remarkable 1st step ๐ฃ .]
After a while, donโt think we even think about ๐ค ๐ญ (or desire ๐ ) ๐ง at all? ๐ค ๐คทโโ๏ธ ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
Getting over the (addictive) hump ใฐ๏ธ seems hardest part (biggest struggle ๐คผโโ๏ธ ) โ taking the needed time ๐ฐ ๐ ๐ to try & patiently break ๐ง โ through ๐ฅ the addictive cycle โป๏ธ .
Thank you kindly, Ali. Much appreciated. โบ๏ธ ๐ ๐ ๐บ ๐
Click on the link please. My youngest son uses this for different dishes and recommended this to me. And is not expensive either plus B12 in it. Enjoy your Easter!!!
Thank you kindly, for bringing up nutritional yeast flakes, 447510 (4๏ธโฃ4๏ธโฃ7๏ธโฃ5๏ธโฃ๐)!
Much appreciated. ๐ ๐

Love itโฃ๏ธ
And, itโs fortified with B12 too. ๐๐ Excellent! โญ๏ธ
Can sprinkle it โ , โ , โ , โ in sandwiches ๐ฅช ๐ฅ & wraps ๐ฏ as well as all the other foods ๐ ๐ฅ ๐ฒ . . . ๐๐
Flakestastes ๐ good ๐, so doesnโt matter if itโs not in form/ โshape ofโ sliced ๐ฒ ๐ cheese ๐ง !! [Doh! ๐คฆโโ๏ธ ] ๐
Thank you & son for bringing yeast flakes to attention! Kindly give him ๐ง a peck ๐ for sharing such a good idea ๐ก. . . โบ๏ธ ๐ ๐ ๐บ ๐

[Aside: Have heard nutritional yeast flakes ( google.com/search?as_q=nutr... ) referred to as "vegan crack"! ๐ฏ ๐ ๐ If thatโs the case, perhaps thatโs a better (โhealthierโ ๐ค ) thing to get addicted to! ๐ (Imagining ๐ค ๐ญ โจ it now . . . jonesing ๐ฐ ๐ ๐ฅบ for some โyeast flakesโ ( , โ , โ , โ ), scoring some โflakesโ behind the โflake factoryโ ๐ญ , OD-ing ๐ต ๐ on B12 . . . ๐คฃ ๐คช ๐ )]

Happy Easter ๐ฃ to you too, 4๏ธโฃ4๏ธโฃ7๏ธโฃ5๏ธโฃ๐! ๐ ๐
You welcomed Kai. I shall asked my son how to use this properly. I bought some myself today and shall try these yeast flakes, sprinkled on my soup for tea later. There is a website here
[Thank gawd for the Internet ๐ธ !! ๐ ๐ Where would we be without it?! Banging 2 stones together in a cave ๐ณ trying to make ๐ฅ ?? . . . ๐ ๐ ]

Yes, please let us know how you use your yeast flakes, 4๏ธโฃ4๏ธโฃ7๏ธโฃ5๏ธโฃ๐ , & how you like it.
Looking forward to hearing ๐ about your โculinary ๐ฉโ๐ณ ๐ฅฃ experiments ๐ฉโ๐ฌ โ๏ธ โ & the recipes ๐ that become your favorites! ๐
But he has vitamin B12 deficiency now. So he didnt look after himself very well. Lots of good ideas here for him. Hope he's interested as it would help him to have a good vegan diet.
Found this too! It is not suitable for everybody, if you suffer from mentioned health conditions in this article. Mine from Holland and Barrett is gluten free. . Anyway time for tea and flakes and heart meds again.
. . ."Despite all the benefits that nutritional yeast may offer, this supplement is not suitable for everyone. Researchers have recommended that individuals with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), glaucoma, and hypertension avoid using nutritional yeast because it could make their symptoms worse.
People with a yeast sensitivity or allergy should also take care to avoid any exposure to nutritional yeast.
In addition, some researchers say that people with a higher risk of gout may want to avoid nutritional yeast."
I've tried Asda's 'Free from' vegan cheese and its taste is acceptable, and works great in a toasted sandwich with rocket and beetroot! I have also tried the Koko dairy-free Cheddar but there's a prominent coconut odour/taste, so it's not for me.
