Sauerkraut

I've had so many issues since getting food poisoning on 22 November last year that I am taking control of my health.

I used to have IBS C which I managed with no problem, I could put up with the pain and bloating. Since having food poisoning the IBS has changed completely as I've been getting diarrhoea and nausea, last night I was feeling very sick. I have been living off white toast so have been feeling very tired and lacklustre. I am a person that enjoys keeping fit and eating very healthily but haven't been able to do either which has been very frustrating.

I have been talking to someone on the IBS part of HU and she has been very helpful and mentioned that I may have Candida. I am therefore taking control of my gut so today I made Sauerkraut (I have Dr Michael Mosley's Clever Guts Diet book) and will now watch that ferment for about 3 weeks. I have thrown away my Sourdough starter to make a new one with Gluten free flour. I also bought Kombucha this morning and have had some already and it tastes delicious.

I will beat this no matter what. This condition isn't understood very well by the medical profession. I think at the end of the day what we put into our gut counts for how we feel.

I will continue to feed my gut with these wonderful fermented foods, you cannot beat a natural solution.

It shouldn't be too long before I am back making my favourite Vegan dishes and that I will be able to enjoy them. :)

Hi Alicia, you have been through such a rough time lately. I think your approach is great. Sauerkraut is delicious so I hope you enjoy it. Looks like you’ve made it with red cabbage too. I hope you get better soon and can enjoy your food again. xx

Hi Ali, thank you for your lovely words. It's so lovely belonging to a forum like this where there is a lot of support. Yes I did use red cabbage, I do enjoy eating red cabbage and haven't done so in a very long time, it'll be great getting back to eating homemade Vegan food again.

I had Kombucha this morning, I did cheat and buy that in the supermarket, and it tasted lovely. I am going to throw a lot in to my stomach and the bad guys in there won't have a change to survive :).

xx

So sorry your having such a ruff time Alicia.

Candida can cause an amazing amount of symptoms (not just the obvious ones) I used the Dr Leon Chaitow Book (not the newer version as they have cut out so much) but the older one in the grey over - he is brillant, he is not your normal GP - I hassen to add and also

it sounds like possible gut problems like leaky gut - Lee Holmes has got a great book out heal your gut it is full of recipes.

I used to have terrible IBS and what stopped it for me was going Gluten Free, I know for me personally that what I eat really does effect me.

I really hope you start feeling better soon

Best wishes

Debs
