Experimenting with new flavours.

I am trying to use different flavours like they do in my favourite vegan cafe. When I was there at the weekend I asked a lady what they use and she gave me some ideas.

So today I made a potato salad and flavoured it with Dijon mustard, lemon juice, black pepper, capers and plenty of dill, which I don’t use these days as I associate it with fish.

I also made a roasted beetroot and lentil salad. I boiled puy lentils with a star anise not something I would normally use, when cooled I added some chopped mini cornichons, red onions, chilli, juice of an orange and a little mayonnaise. It was so delicious. I also made hummus and harissa with roasted peppers, garlic and chilli.

We had these with some dwarf beans with lemon, pepper and balsamic glaze and some of sainsburys butternut squash bites which were very tasty.

The whole meal was delicious. It was a tad time consuming but I think next time and when I get used to what different flavours go with what it will be much quicker..😋

That sounds so lovely Ali and as you say the more you make things like this and play with more flavours the quicker it will become to prepare. :)

Yes, I am sure it will. I’ve got a few different things to try to shake things up a bit 🙂

Thank you Ali they both sound good. I think I'm going to make the cake first because I've got friends coming to tea one day next week and I think I might like it with a dollop of yogurt on the side and maybe even decorate with a strawberry😸👍
