Which fruit and which cream/ice cream to have dilemma solved...

β€’4 Replies

Hi everyone,

I find this heat wave has knocked me out at times so crave cool fruit and find that I eat smaller meals and then can't eat anything else so last night I was hungry and wanted some fruit for supper and as I had 2 tubs of strawberries and a bunch of small bananas and I love bananas with soy cream and strawberries with Swedish Glace and I just couldn't make up my mind, so had both...et voila problem solved.

To me ice cream/cream doesn't have to be just a sweet and sugary desert. I love it with fruit and I sprinkle a little ground almond and flaked almonds on top and have the best of both worlds...🍧

Thanks Alicia.😊

I must admit I have always been a fan of Swiss soya over the years, whilst I hadn't had it for a few years until recently. Better value for money, in my opinion. No wonder they are popular. Shame, Aldi doesn't do their own soy ice cream with reduced fat/reduced sweetened variety (not that I go there often). I remember whilst I was in the USA, they had quite a few "healthy" options that I quite liked. In the UK, I notice you have far fewer options if you wanted to cut your sugar intake. I often wondered why. It would have been nicer if you/consumers have more "choice" when you would not want too much sugar/fat in foods we buy. Supermarkets ought to consider this more since obesity is a huge problem. Maybe, the government could put pressure on them.

Another thing is, if Alpro products are as cheap as average non-vegan counterparts, more people would be able to buy it. It seems "vegan" comes with a higher price tag when it doesn't really warrant the price. Of course, added vitamins would cost more, but I read added "vitamins" may not be necessarily good for you. What I am saying is that if the price is right, more people will buy vegan stuff, but the logic behind the average consumers would be, the price has to be in line with other products = value for money. Lots of alpro stuff goes out of date and end up in a supermarket skip. Wouldn't that be a waste?

Having said that, I saw the ingredients this evening, the worst thing one can do these days. *Sighs*
