This is in todays Independent and its about a petition calling for vegan options to be offered in schools and hospitals.
One form Anglia Crown is the first hospital caterer to use vegan trademark so their menu is registered with the Vegan society and they supply 100 hospitals already so this is very encouraging news I think and as soon as the petition appears we'll put a link on here. 😊
I would be very pleased to see Vegan food in hospitals & schools. When I first started going to the hospital with my son and he had anaesthetic I would wonder off to the canteen but there was literally nothing to eat which Was vegan and not even anything that was healthy. Chips and coke seemed to be the order of the day. That was 3 years ago. Now things are looking up slightly as you can at least get a vegan Indian bhajis sandwich in the cafe (if you hadn’t remembered you’re own lunch). Hospitals should be a place of healing and set a good example as to what are healthy healing foods. it’s very sad to see all the unhealthy food when people are obviously very unwell in hospital. Healthy eating and wellbeing go hand in hand.
I stayed in a well-regarded NHS hospital (for patients care) and asked for a vegetarian option in advance via the coordinator. The catering department didn't know once I got there. They can provide what you want as the "kitchen" would take your order each evening but you would have to be persistent/assertive until you get your veggie option. These days, I just take my food along. Easier.
