Approaches to talking about veganism

When talking about veganism some people go hard on the ethics, some (like myself) go hard on the health aspects. I expect as the number of vegans rises there will be an increase in the number of people giving up veganism because of health issues. Probably these will be a small proportion of the ones that succeed. But they will garner more media attention. Nothing goes viral so much as a vegan failure! My hope is that some of my words will guide people away from junk-food vegansim towards healthier choices.

There is no doubt in my mind that anyone who gets to the point of including a significant amount of whole foods in their plant-based lifestyle are likely to succeed, excepting people who have pre-existing gut issues they developed on their omnivore diets!

Whatever there is no right or wrong way. Actually not talking about is is definitely a wrong way!!!!

I agree, I think wholefood vegan is healthy but I’m concerned with the amount of convenience vegan food there is on the shelves now. I used to buy the odd thing here and there to support it but of course now there is too much. Someone said to me the other day it doesn’t matter as it’s vegan so it must be healthy, which is a concern. Ali 🌱🙂

Well said Andy and I became Vegan for my health as I have IBS. I've not been well lately but that's only because I had a very bad case if food poisoning with rice. I agree with Agoodenough in that it's quite worrying the amount of Vegan convenience foods there are out there now.

I have eaten a fair few crackers and biscuits lately but that's only because I haven't been able to eat much. Under normal circumstances I make about 90% of my own food, including sourdough bread, and the rest is homemade. Also, anything sweet is sweetened with dates.

I love Vegan food but definitely need to broaden my choices when it comes to vegetables.

i bought lots of quorn when i first gave up meat but when i realized its not just meat its prossesed food as well. I gave it to my friends who doesnt mind eating prosessed foods. iv only bought two vegan meals from the supermarket and i hated one of them. id rather make all my own meals even if they are are very disjointed and not conventional. i made quite a good vegetable curry yesterday with sweet potatoes cauliflower and i put chic peas in at the end and a whole bad of corriander. i use bit of different spices as im not an expert on them but iv got the gist of what goes into lentil dhal so i made it with curries like that. it was very deleicous. i also used half a tin of coconut milk as im not happy with whole tins of that. i use the other half when i do a stir fry. my blood pressure is going right down too. and my weight.

I don't talk about being vegan at all. I tell people I prefer not to eat dairy, eggs and meat. I went vegan for health reasons and found it very effective in helping me lose 13.5 kg. When people I know ask me if I have lost weight and then how I did it, I tell them that I tried low carb high fat, which didn't work for me (in terms of weight loss) but plants only has been highly effective because of the lower calorie density. That message seems to be well received.
