The Save Movement activism at S. Glos Tulip Abattoir, ❌

Hi Everyone,

I was out on my bike this morning and cycled along a bridle way and it ends behind the Tulip abattoir and a local group of 'The Save Movement' were there photographing animals in a lorry outside the abattoir.

I spoke to Josephine who is their organiser and I was very impressed in how they have spoken to the manager of the abattoir who gets the lorry drivers to do their paperwork before entering the abattoir so they can photograph them outside with impunity. So I like the managers style on this so good for him. Josephine also told me that they had a really good working relationship with the police and didn't have to have confrontations with them on a protest. this I was impressed with as I feel with the rise in popularity of veganism that we have to de-radicalise vegan militancy, because you don't win people over by starting a war however passionate we feel about something.

So me being me I asked if I could photograph them and they took up their banners for me and here's a photo of them this Thursday morning. And they gave up their free time to do this and that's what I call fighting for a cause passively and positively.

And it was great meeting them all and if anyone wants to share activism in their area then please do. 😊

That's brilliant.

And a good point about deradicalizing the movement, the weekends observer article was making a similar point.

We should treat meat consumption as a structural issue for the whole of society to be solved at that level, so the people working in the industry aren't personally targeted and can be found alternative employment.

Thanks Ben, it is brilliant that they have taken the time to establish a dialogue that works for everyone. I've seen them here before and today they were standing on crates photographing animals in a lorry.

I think it's a broader picture than just animal welfare as we ignore the poverty in some developing countries when 20% of the worlds wealthier population consume 85% of the worlds resources which's not fair nor sustainable. This may interest you its the Hard Rain project which shows the world in pics to the words of Hard Rain by Bob Dylan and its stark.

I think it would be well worth sending this to the Bristol newspapers along with the photo..

Thanks Tallamou, I think thats a great idea and I would like to take some more photo's because it was a lovely day so the sun was in my eyes and I'd like to take some more photos and with the entrance to the abattoir. They are here Tuesdays and Thursdays and its by my favourite bike ride.

I'm also sending the photo's to 'The Save Movement'

Jerry 😊
