Hi I have had my first dose of rituxaban for my vasculitis which has caused stage 5 kidney disease.

the only side effect I have developed is a swollen right foot.

anyone else had this or is it nothing to do with the infusion?

If you’ve got stage 5 kidney disease swollen feet are more likely to be kidney related due to water retention. I put on 10kg of water weight overnight when in kidney failure when they had me hooked up to a drip (I hadn’t been able to hold down fluids but they hasn’t anticipated my kidneys would drop at the rate they did).

Is your kidney disease recent/rapidly onset or has it been progressing with the vasculitis?

Also assuming they’ve got you in prednisone which also contributes to water retention. Any symptoms you’re unsure or though call your consultant - if you’re stage 5 they should be willing to speak immediately about any thing

I also had stage 5 CKD from Anca Vasculitis and my right foot became very swollen and painful but that was months before the Vascultis had started doing any real damage and my kidney numbers were still in a reasonable range but may have had something to do with my foot. Today, I have severe neuropathy in both feet but my right foot is much worse and feels like someone dropped a cinder block on it. I have severe nerve damage in that foot and sometimes at night in bed, the I'll get these nerve flares that cause me to jump because they are so painful. I tried Gabapentin but you can't take too much with CKD and it makes you kinda spacey. I've bought dozens of pairs of slippers and shoes trying to find something comfortable and they don't exist. Good luck to you in your journey mate!

How awful. Are you on dialysis with stage 5 CKD?

no they think they can get its into remission and avoid dialysis

That is hopeful news. A friend up the road is on dialysis and they have set up a room in her house for it. I was very impressed.

Are you saying that the drug can cause kidney disease rather than saying you have kidney failure?? and you're concerned it might damage your kidneys?? I'm a bit confused...

Rituximab is an incredible drug for initiating refractory vasculitis, but can also cause a myriad of potentially life damaging and life altering side effects, including kidney disease and it also destroy parts of your immune system for good, such as destroy B cells ...memory cells of your immune system.

I have stage 5 kidney disease and my consultant has given me Rituximab to hopefully prevent dialysis. they thought I had P.M. R. but now know that my immune system has caused my kidney problems.
