I’m currently in relatively good health and stabilised with GPA. Recently I have started to suffer with extreme pain in my right shoulder and it seems to be starting in my left. It tends to be if I extend my arms but over the last week or so it has been very painful even whilst resting or sleeping. Has anyone else experienced this as a side effect of GPA?
Thanks

It is an aching pain in my shoulder that lasts a short period of time after extending my arm for example grabbing my car seatbelt., although it sometimesincludes a tingling in my hand at the same time.
My husband with GPA for 10 years started on high doses of steroids and ends up with Avascular Necrosis which meant having 2 new hips and awaiting new shoulders. I hope it's not that for you, just giving you some info. Best wishes
I had extreme pain in my right shoulder in the early days of GPA, nothing in the left shoulder. It was horrible pain, had to try to sleep sitting upright. It lasted about 3 weeks then died down and thankfully hasn't returned. Still feel a bit of a twinge occasionally, I suspect there may be some nerve damage. Two interesting things - the pain started to ease before I started my medication, and it was a similar pain to when I had shingles in the same shoulder 10 years ago .
I had something similar and was diagnosed as polymyalgia (PMR). Blood tests confirmed this and I had my steroids increased until it improved. I've had no problems since and that was 2012.
Good luck, hope your pain improves soon whatever the cause.
