Yes over 25mg they do work well.

Hi my consultant wants me to try 7.5 mg injections. I am on Tocilizumab and 3 mg of steroids but have been on various doses of methotrexate, which I feel hasn’t benefited me. The last oral dose I was on was 10 mg I was okay for about 3 to 4 weeks then all the side effects

I had experienced before were back and got worse with each subsequent dose. For some reason they are saying this might not be the case with the injections.

I was struggling with gastrointestinal problems on tablets, nauseous most of the time so was transferred to injection. My dose was 15mg at first but over the past few years of increasing disease activity my dose has now increased to 25mg. The injections are so much better for me no nausea at all now and so easy to use.

You are on a very low dose. Maybe a higher dose will work better. It takes a while to be effective.

Hi I’ve been on as much as 35mg but just felt horrendous, it’s only since the dose has dropped and also I had a few weeks of not taking it at all that I was able to pinpoint that how ill I was feeling was related to methotrexate and not the illness or the steroids. I was put on tocilizumab when 40 mg of steroids and 35mg of methotrexate didn’t control the inflammation. I would be happier to stay on low dose steroids as professor dasgupta suggests but my rheumatologist is adamant that methotrexate is the way and off steroids

Hi, I was on 20mg Methotrexate tablets but still getting symptoms on occasions despite being on that dose for 2 years. I was moved on to injections 18 months ago and I haven't experienced any significant symptoms since. The dose has remained the same. Doing the injections hasn't been a problem.

I transferred from another drug to subcutaneous methatrexate 4 years ago, starting with a weekly 15mg injection. (Metaject pen - so easy!) I had a flare after 2 years of everything being settled & the dose was raised to 20mg. Side effects for me are low energy, tired/fatigue, but not impossible to manage. I hope you have success with them. 😃

Hi! Absolutely! I started injections about 2 months ago. Side effects are much less, especially nausea. I “feel” much better. I was on 20 mg oral, but 15 mg injections. Highly recommend changing from pills. Worth the hassle thus far. Good luck!

I started with injections but I couldn’t tolerate them so am now on tablets. Felt like a massive massive hangover for days on the injections.
