I get pain at the bottom of my ribs, both sides but my right side is more severe. It's where the bottom, floating rib is and is tender all the time. I find heat helps alleviate it a bit.
My GP tells me some people get this.
I don't suffer pain in my back as you describe but I do get pain in my sternum intermittently.

Hi Suzy,
These are symptoms that are common to lots of illnesses not just Vasculitis.
Have you contacted the helpline yet?
Hi Suzy, I have recently had a flare up of my WG and my main focus of pain was in my lower right ribs. Felt like I had been stabbed and really tender all the time. Thankfully after 4 sessions of Rituximab I am in remission and doing well
The pain in the back between the shoulder blades sounds horribly familiar. I have large vessel Vasculitis and have rationalised it to myself as being one of the side effects of aortic involvement? It comes on whenever I do too much, try to walk up a hill, walk fast, stand for too long. I'm on rituximab/steroids and it definitely gets more tiresome towards the end of a cycle. It seems to be one of my more persistent symptoms, so I'd be really interested in any other explanation.
I have suffered a lot of upper back pain and especially between shoulder blades. I have had suffered these symptoms for quite a few years prior to diagnosis of G.P.A.
I was therapist for 20 years and thought it was work related R.S.I . Often felt worse than my clients. I now wonder if it was my symptoms grumbling.
I find massage and reflexology very helpful for pain and general well being. I also listen to my body and relax when I feel really bad, if possible.
This could be chondrite which you get with some forms of vasculitis including relapsing polychondritis.
hi suzi
my vasculitis started with pain under right ribs due to gall stones and the doctor gave me diclofenic which they found out i was allergic to. joint and muscle pain now gone but will always have the rash now. acupuncture has work wonders. Pat
Hello Suzy
Not pain but I tend to get flu-like pains in between my shoulder blades especially when I know I have an infection coming. Also, I found out last year that I have a dislocated left diaphragm but they are not sure if it is related to vasculitis.
Hi How are things for you now? John started with a pain just under his lower ribs and it then spread to his shoulder and side. This was a few years ago. It started to get worse and began to affect his breathing because the pain restricted him filling his lungs with air, he was finally diagnosed with inflammation of the intercostal muscles due to the WG ( Vasculitis ) His medication was adjusted for a short while until the inflammation subsided. So what I am saying really, is don't let this problem go on too long without having it investigated. Suzy
Yes I've had these pains. Very painful and debilitating at the time. They lasted for about a month and a half and then went as mysteriously as they came. That was over a year ago. Haven't had them since (touch wood).
Yes iv had same pain as u and get muscle and joint pain all over my body it stays for about week then moves on to another joint! My rib pain started on left then went to side then Base of back. But don't know if that's constipation from morphine!
