Is anyone else suffering from warts, on your hands legs and shoulders. Would it be due to the meds? If so what are you doing to stop them.

Hi Julie, I don't have warts, but I think I remember being told that they can come back if you've had them when on immune suppressants. I'm sorry I can't help you. Perhaps ask your Dr for advice, my friend had hers treated by practice nurse at her medical centre. Best wishes.

Hi Julie

I have WG and I have warts all over my hands. I have tried all different things t get rid of them but to no avail. Think it is just another symptom of this illness. Would be interested to hear other peoples views.

I have had several warts removed from my hands over the years. Last year I had to have a biopsy of a 'suspicious' growth on my calf....it turned out to be a 'warty growth'. My consultant has told me that warts are an unfortunate side effect of azathioprine. Although they are a nuisance, I guess it's a small price to pay.

Thank you for your replys

I have been told it is a side affect of azathioprine.

Although I would like to get rid any advice.

I have them all over my hands as well. I am going to try the wart freeze medicine that is over the counter (I think it's Compound W freeze spray) to see if that helps at all. Mine are really small and I'm the only one that can see them so I'm hoping that will help.

Mine look and feel like cauliflowers,

I sometime can pick at them but they start to bleed a bit and get sore.

Hi my husband is on Azathioprine and has started to see warts on his hands. He has had them in the past pre illness so maybe its the tablets!

I have 3 on my hands and several on my feet. When you're on immunosuppressants, like pred, aza, cyclo. myco etc you lack the immune ability to respond in the same way to the HPV virus that causes these growths. I have froze, sanded, vinegared and even used electrical tape. If they do dissipate, they will only reappear. I'd love to hear if anyone has had any success.

Been on azathioprine since 2005 for Crohns disease; other possible meds did not agree with me. I have many drug sensitivities and reactions. I did a search regarding the med, warts. I have also developed cysts internal both kidneys.

I am in the process of going off azathioprine. see what happens, don't know what is ahead. There are minimal options, but have to give my body a rest as well as a cleansing.
