Similar to vasculitus?
I've never heard of it before, so did a bit of Googling and came up with this.....
"Similar to vasculitus?" Yes ..... with some of the early symptoms being the same. But Guillain-Barré Syndrome can lead to total paralysis as happened in this case.
Good link to the Mayo Clinic description for those who are interested ....

The good news is that 'most patients recover' ....
"There's no known cure for Guillain-Barre syndrome, but several treatments can ease symptoms and reduce the duration of the illness. Most people recover from Guillain-Barre syndrome, though some may experience lingering effects from it, such as weakness, numbness or fatigue."
Plasma exchange is the preferred treatment .. no mention of steroids, so in that respect it is not an inflammation disease like vasculitis.
I have heard of it. Guillain-Barre syndrome in the immune system attacking the nerves. Vasculitis is leaky blood vessels. Where your vasculitis/leaky vessels manifest determine the type from what I understand. Vasculitis manifests in my skin, so I have urticarial vasculitis. That's my best guess based on what I've been reading and what my doctor at Johns Hopkins has said.
