Blueprint Medicines, who are running trials in avapritinib in Advanced SM and in indolent SM have presented their findings at this week's meeting of the American Society of Hematology. In addition to keeping track of how patients are doing with the new drug, they have also been collecting data on which methods work best for diagnosing ISM (finding a certain kind of blood test called ddPCR that looks for the D816V mutation works better than others) and also collecting data on how SM symptoms make patients feel. It's good to see the pharmaceutical companies running trials but also collecting data along the way that will be helpful in improving diagnostic process and in making the case for why we need better treatments.
