Will his tics turn vocal

What are the chances of tics turning vocal I.e saying random words / sentences. Currently it’s just head , toe and arm and some sounds.

He is going to school but I’m very paranoid that he will start vocal ones. He is 7 . I feel like I can cope with the motor and sounds but the vocal ones frighten the hell out of me, as in how will he cope in public etc. I worry how he will wake up everyday. All this is stressful and I feel like I’m now depressed and can’t cope not sleeping

I think the most important thing is to not stress about it. There's no telling whether or not he'll get them. I woke up one day when I was 15 and had coprolalia (the swearing tic).

The truth is there's nothing we can do about it and we just have to find ways to cope with it. Public awareness is becoming greater and greater around Tourette's and it's only continuing to do so.

If you need any further help, check out my channel (link below) and send me an email through the "About" section on my page.

Also, try your hardest not to stress him out about it. He's already dealing with motor tics, he doesn't need to be worrying about his future tics. Leave those for the time that they come. IF they even do.

Thanks Adam, funny enough I have been watching your videos . You’re awesome.

As a parent new to this I’m worried and of course trying to find ways to help my child. But you’ve said wide words and I will take your advice and take it one day at a time

There was period of time during my 5th, 6th & 7th grade years in which I had vocal tics--my coprolaia was masked as a different sound while thinking what I really meant in my head--I still have it from time to time, and have to remind myself that I really don't mean it--just another have 2 do. As time has passed (1960 birthdate) I still use the same technique, as with all of my other tics. I generally hold my breath or make a silent internal throat tightening a number of times, and of course cough. It is so very individual--please don't over concern yourself or dote. We really do have to figure it out on our own. Just make sure you love love love and support your child. Watch for teasing and bullying.
