You need to look at her behaviour first, it sounds as if she is scared and totally over whelmed by her new school. I would deffintally recommed theraphy.

Have a look at the youngminds.org.uk website and mindEd.org.uk website.

Is her Tourette's bad enough to merit medication? Who's diagnosed her and is there any comorbidity like ADHD? My daughter gets overwhelmed if there's too much going on.

My daughter has benefited from Risperidone- it's a struggle, but she's had a near normal school experience

If you don't know what to do it may be worth talking to Tourette's Action or Tourette's Scotland.

Your daughter will need your support - it's a difficult illness to live with and to speak to schools about. Does she get any breaks in the school day to let tics out?

My daughter got diagnosed at the age of 10 with TS. That's usually the age when it peaks. She's 14 now and the TS has settled down a lot. I understand how frustrating it is dealing with the school as I've had problems myself, although the school has been very supportive mostly, I have to keep reminding them of things, such as if she's told off she rolls her eyes and they think she's being rude, I have to remind them it's her tics. My advice is to be politely persistent, speak to the head of SENCO and any bullying is usually dealt with by the head of house/year. I sometimes email them polite reminders regarding her TS. I know how hard this is for you, I've been in your place and my daughter has been in your daughter's place. It does settle down as she gets older. I would get some legal advice if you can. There is a solicitor's firm called SENLegal, phone number 01284 723952. I know solicitors are expensive but most of them will give initial telephone advice for free and if you're on a low income you may get Legal Aid. They will at least be able to point you in the right direction. Our County Council has a department called SENDIAS who give free advice to parents on how to deal with schools regarding children with Special Educational Needs. I don't know which council you have, but you could give your council office a call and ask if there is something similar for parent's with children with Special Educational Needs. There is help and light at the end of the tunnel.
