Feeling of fullness in ear, mild hearing loss and constant tinnitus

hi

I have had a “blocked ear” now for nearly 4 months… I went to the doctors expecting it to be some ear wax blockage or something simple like that. GP had a look in my ear, said it all looked clear but thinks there could be some fluid build up in my middle ear. She told me to try some remedies at home such a steam inhalation and putting a hot flannel against my ear. I did this for weeks and nothing changed. Infact my ear got worse, I now have mild hearing loss in that ear and I have tinnitus all day long everyday. Spoke to GP and she is referring me to ENT.

I just wanted to ask if anyone else has had similar and what it ended up being?

thanks! :)

It sounds, (no pun intended) like you have "glue ear" which can cause temporary tinnitus. Glue ear, more common in children, most often gets better, but as you've had a blocked ear for 4 months, lets hope that the ENT department can help you.

Fingers crossed for you.

Here's what the UK NHS has to say about it.

Evening, so have experienced very similar this past week

I had blocked nose sinus few weeks back and my ear was a bit off for those 2 weeks, it cleared up and thought ah good was just my sinus. After getting a flight back home after weekend away on Sunday there my right ear starts ringing (like a dog whistle him best way to subscribe it) I got it checked today privately, low level hearing loss but fine at top end range 2Hz above.

Went to A&E and been referred to ENT for Monday, who will do same checks as private place. But need them to do it to allow me to go use private medical via work (to speed up next bit) I was told they think it’s nerve drop in the ear (basically actual ear is fine) but this is connected to bone behind ear (think there’s 3) so possible it’s infected, never damage or tumor (last one don’t think it’s that) but will be getting MRI booked to get all scenarios ruled out

For now I have constant noise in my ear all day, worse in quiet places. Find white noise, an extractor fan and certain relaxing noises really helps mute sound and used that to get to sleep at night.

Won’t lie, it’s made me feel very uneasy and stressed (feel more stressed) as noise won’t go away. Work has been great and actually the busy distraction helps keep my mind of it and sometimes zone so much out that almost feels like it’s gone (but comes back) reading online can train brain over time to deal with that but no easy fix.

Really does sound quite similar experience and hope you get to bottom of it all and get some form of relief
