How to celebrate my Tanniversary?

Hi all,

Something lighthearted, and I understand for some a lighthearted post will not be appreciated, but as I continue my journey I happen to know exactly when my T started. It. was November 1, 2024, sitting on my sofa that evening that I noticed the noise. Back then I thought "it'll pass obviously". Well it hasn't yet.

Assuming like many of us I'm unlucky enough to reach Tanniversary, I'm wondering how I should celebrate? Perhaps sit in a silent room and just listen to it? Drown it out with a 10 hour white noise Spotify playlist? Shall I get a cake with one candle?

Admin do delete if this post isn't welcome! Again I understand this is a serious and debilitating condition, just trying to bring some light relief to my fellow sufferers!

Happy to read into your post that you are able to be light-hearted. It means you'll have a good future despite of your T.

I deffo noticed my tinnitus more than 30 years ago, but it was something that I've realised that had built up gradually over decades. I even heard something like it 55 years ago when I had flu. But that gradual build up means that i was semi habituated to it even when I did notice it permanently.

So let me give you some semi light heartedness with my freesound.org uploads, which include my replica of my tinnitus from 10 years ago, and a bunch of other sounds created for interest and fun.

I have wondered what it might be like to sit in one of those anechoic chambers. They are designed to be totally silent. But of course, to a tinnitus sufferer, nothing is silent. And, the interesting thing is, humans actually suffer when in that level of silence, because we are used to hearing stuff all the time. And I read somewhere that some babies struggle to fall asleep due to a lack of natural background noise, because our double/triple glazed homes are artificially too quiet!

Anyhoo, wishing you the best, Pete.

enjoying your post!

hello, I just posted about my 1 year Tanniversary, so I don’t think that’s strange. The date makes me more conscious about it. So I am buying myself a pair of noise cancelling headphones (I wish they would extend to the noise in my head) and a session with an audiologist. The idea of a silent retreat sounds bliss to me, go for it.

Woohoo 🥳

I would suggest you arrange to have a day doing all the things you love to do and celebrate life! I find if I'm busy I don't have time to let T bug me. Good luck!
