Amlodipine

I had extra high blood pressure & I was given Amlodipine, within 1-2 weeks, my tinnitus was a lot louder & going up, I then stopped taken it and my tinnitus went back down to the past noise level. I then googled it and also found on here, numerous issues with Amlodipine & Tinnitus increasing & spikes. I do wonder if this drug can also cause irreversible tinnitus for others.

How many others have had the same experience, of amlodipine & increased Tinnitus noise level ?

I’m of the opinion - and I could be wrong - that medications don’t cause “irreversible “ tinnitus.

If you haven’t already, have a look at the website of Tinnitus UK. Having absorbed what they say, have a word with the pharmacist attached to your doc’s group of surgeries - they’ll have access to your medical records and might well be in a position to advise your doctor on medication.

It might be a good idea to have a written record of your blood pressure readings taken at home, so that they can form an opinion.

I have been taking my blood pressure readings for a while, I just noticed an increase with taking Amlodipine & when I stopped it, it went back down & when I googled it, quite a few people have had similar. Some people do say some meds are toxic and cause Permanent Tinnitus, but, this can be hard to confirm 100%, as there could be other reasons, some other drugs are listed often on this, as well as covid & the vaccines being suggested as well. We all just need a future med or drug that is a cure, as millions of us are suffering with it & when we visit the doctors, it is like we are the only ones! to them or they think it will go away often.

Hi! I don’t know exactly about an existence of a relationship between blood pressure lowering medication and T but I presume there is one.

Since I started taking this kind of medication in 2016 my T level has increased a lot . If in 2016 let’s say that on a scale from 1 to 10 my T ranked 6,5-7, now it is around 8-8.5!!!

But I DO know that my T increases when:

- my blood pressure is higher a little bit around 150

- my blood pressure decreases a little( when it is hot)

- the weather changes to rain

- I take a diuretic.

I googled for Almodipin and I understand that it is a calcium blocker. That’s the interesting part because my level of calcium is a little high too, so I take Vit D3 in higher amounts.

Another interesting side of T story is that it DOES exist a link ( medically demonstrated) between kidney problems and Ear, respectively T.

Good health!

Hi Dazza, I’ve been on Amlodopine for 5 years 5mg and must admit my T is now quite severe some days but I put that down to my 3 covid jabs plus 2 flue vaccines! I also take another medication for high blood pressure. I’m currently reducing my caffeine intake.

My tinnitus started with amlodipine and never went away. I take candesartan now, which is not totally innocent, but better than amlodipine for me anyway.

I Googled Amlodipine and it seems it has quite a lot of issues with Tinnitus & Increasing it also.

My tinnitus started 6 weeks ago, within a week of first taking amlodipine. I didn't connect the 2 at first, but a week after my GP upped the dose, the tinnitus also increased! An ENT consultant has agreed with my suspicion, and I'm now looking at alternative meds - which DON'T list timnitis as a side effect
